Great pics Col - quite a different beast to what we had south of the border.

Photos of the LP-Classic looking supercell which tracked from west of Maclean to near Casino between 4pm and 6pm. There was some brief hail to 2cm as the storm rapidly collapsed just SE of Casino, though I'm sure it was a lot larger further south. The updrafts and structure were amazing to watch. Especially given this season!

Hi Brad, was great to see - given the previous 3 months have had next to nothing. I was chasing alone but some others were out and about so hopefully some other pics will get posted.

I have video including timelapse sequences.

regards, Michael

Great shots MB and Rodney!! Nice to break the spell with a beauty.

Headed home from work in the Gold Coast this afternoon via a slightly longer route than normal taking in Beaudesert, Rathdowney, Kyogle and then Casino. Managed to catch 3 separate storms each one getting better the further south I went (Can I insert a GO NSW in here ...).

The first one was the start of the cells near Rathdowney that moved NE and went onto hit Brisbane later.

As I was trying to get home I decided to leave this one and head across the border to Kyogle

A nice classic-LP storm moving due north with good structure. Unfortunately it was fast running out of moisture so I moved on down to the cell Michael Bath was on and boy was it a monster! Seriously nice Supercell with classic structure. BOM warning had hail in the 4-5cm range however as MB said, it died entering Casino so didn't get to witness any. This storm nearly made up for the lack of storms the last 2 months!

Hello all,

Some very nice photos. Good work guys.

I am quite happy with my photos, was quite awesome to watch this storm. Up there with the best storm structure I have seen. Admittedly, I haven't seen many powerful storms.

Hi all,

Awesome storms up north and you too Michael T. Well done! Some nice solid and crisp structures for a change.

The supercell south of Brisbane shows a brief overshoot as it punches into a relatively warm layer aloft - likely resulting in the very large hail.

I took some pictures of the storm you were on Michael T but the storm collpased when I got there - it overrode the boundary or was overcome by dry air separating the moisture feed. I knew the storms would be healthier early on before dry air entrainment would be an issue.

Regards,

Jimmy Deguara

Lovely shots of the three storms James. I still haven't looked through mine properly but will do up a video when time permits.

Michael T - where did you take your photos from?

Jimmy - which area are you referring to with your storm?

Looks like a storm line is coming in from the southwest to us and it is full of CG activity

Oh that should learn me to post more often - I have had to start up a new account  :d

Awesome shots of the cell near Casino. Standing in our front yard, we could see it developing and it looked fantastic! The mammatus over our house from it was just amazing. Couple hours before hand, driving out of Lismore, there were three definite and separate anvil clouds which were expanding very quickly. One blew out pretty quickly though.

Over looking the Northern Ridge of Lismore

Anyway, to add to the gallery of the Casino cell, here are a couple of mine.

I cant take credit for the first one - I refused to climb up the ladder with the camera as I am a clutz. So the huz took it.

Then we jumped in the car for a looksie.
