A northern hemisphere clockwise vortex

Considering nobody has mentioned it before, I thought id bring to everyones attention a rather unusual vortex spotted in the Northern hemisphere. A brief synopsis with the satellite imagery is also available on the website:

I believe he correctly states (from a university source) that the system being so close to the equator with neglible coriolis can potentially spin either way depending on the localised vorticity. Still it forms a rather unusual event to be captured on satellite imagery.
