Devastating tornado in Joplin, Missouri

Destructive Joplin Missouri Tornado

Above is video of yesterday's horrific tornado in Joplin, Missouri, filmed by the TVN Basehunters storm chasing team of Scott Peake, Colt Forney, Kevin Rolfs and Isaac Pato. The four meteorology students assisted with first response efforts as they arrived in Joplin, even transporting injured victims to the hospital. Please refer to the National Weather Service in Springfield, MO for the latest information on the Joplin tornado (here).

Severe weather also threatens a wide area of the eastern and central U.S. today, the latest in what has been a multi-day severe weather episode. Tomorrow, May 24, 2011, has all the makings of an extremely dangerous weather day across the southern Plains. Parmeters are highly indicative of long-tracked, strong to violent tornadoes across Kansas and Oklahoma. As such, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Day-2 Moderate Risk, and an upgrade to High Risk appears likely. Residents of the risk areas are strongly urged to monitor this developing situation and have a good severe weather plan in place now. Dozens of storm chasers will be covering this event to provide ground-truth to NWS and media personnel; live streaming video is available at our Live page, here.

Hi Nick,

You bet Nick - the sparks at the end are amazing!

You need to watch the whole video or perhaps the last 1 minute of video!
