Gloomy rainfall outlook for central, northern Vic
Thursday June 25, 2009 - 13:31 EST
The weather bureau says it is not confident of average rainfall across central and northern Victoria this winter.

Water authorities say this winter's rains are crucial for human use, irrigators and the environment, but rainfall predictions from the National Climate Centre, for July to September, are not positive.

Central and northern Victoria, from the Murray River to the Macedon Ranges, has only a 40 per cent chance of reaching average rainfall targets.

For Bendigo that is about 150 millimetres, while around Echuca and Boort that is about 120mm.

Further south, the Castlemaine and Kyneton areas average about 200mm over the three months.

The next seasonal outlook will be released at the end of July.
