I had no idea what to correctly call this thread. (if anybody has a better title please change it).

 The next few days is that of extreme weather for Australia and one to keep an eye on.  
The out look for Southern Qld and many areas of NSW is for temperatures in the high 30c and some possible storms igniting on Monday.
 
Further south in southern NSW and Victoria and SA the mercury is set to soar on Friday
As an example the forecast for the following areas of NSW from BoM.

Albury-Wodonga Sunny.Max 38

Wagga Wagga Sunny, very hot. Max 40

Hay  Sunny, very hot. Max 41

Deniliquin Sunny, very hot. Max 42

Griffith  Sunny, very hot. Max 41

Victoria has areas in the low to mid 40c with high winds, extreme fire dangers and possible storms .

Severe Weather Warningfor damaging winds for people in the South West, Wimmera, Central, West and South Gippsland, East Gippsland and North East forecast districts

Weather Situation
A trough of low pressure will move over western and central Victoria later today.
Damaging winds averaging 50-60 km/h with peak gusts around 90 km/h are forecast for the Central forecast district and parts of the Wimmera, South West, West and South Gippsland, East Gippsland and North East forecast districts.
Fire weather warning issued by BoM
South West, North Central, Mallee, Northern Country, Wimmera and Central forecast districts

Extreme Fire Danger is forecast for the following forecast districts:
Mallee and Wimmera
Maximum temperatures around 44 degrees, relative humidity down to 6% and winds averaging 50 km/h are expected. CFA and DSE advise that some fires will be unpredictable, uncontrollable and fast moving.
Severe Fire Danger is forecast for the following forecast districts:
South West, North Central, Northern Country and Central
Maximum temperatures around 41 degrees, relative humidity down to 9% and winds averaging 50 km/h are expected. CFA and DSE advise that some fires will be uncontrollable and fast moving.


South Australia is facing high temperatures, possible storms and catastrophic fire conditions today. Warning from BoM

FIRE WEATHER WARNING FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Issued at 6:45 am CDT on Friday, 31 December 2010.
Friday, 31 December 2010 is forecast to be very hot and dry across the State. Fresh to strong northwesterly winds are forecast in central and eastern districts ahead of a moderate southwesterly change pushing across southern parts during the afternoon.
Catastrophic Fire Danger is forecast for the Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Mount Lofty Ranges, Murraylands, Upper South East and Lower South East Total Fire Ban districts.
Extreme Fire Danger is forecast for the Flinders, Mid North and Riverland Total Fire Ban districts.
Severe Fire Danger is forecast for the West Coast, Lower Eyre Peninsula and Kangaroo Island Total Fire Ban districts.



As for Western Australia, Perth is sizzling with high 30C to 40C+. Areas are under threat from fire and they have a low that is expected to form into a Cat.2 cyclone over the next few days with the possibility of a second TC forming shortly there after.
What a way to end a year and start a new one.
