Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi everyone (mainy NSW people) Keep an eye out for storms tomorrow (ie the forecast) but AVN also has a nice little upper cold pool moving across at 500mb dropping the temp to about -13/14 which makes things a little more interesting, with the weak change comming through as well, i think there may be storms to the south moving up with the change, hopefully some pushing ahead of the change. It may be getting a little too dry west of the ranges tomorrow for storms, but going by the congestus that popped up on the ranges today, i wouldnt rule it out yet, could be high based stuff. Anyway thats just what i think, looking forward to a stormy day ! Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi Michael The change has not gone through Wollongong yet, nor Nowra, nor Ulladulla etc etc, must be some kind of local affect over your way, the Wollongong AWS at 11pm says NNE at 9 knots. Be prepared for some storms tomorrow!! Personally, I have found that the pat 3 weeks have been rewarding as it has allowed me to do what I like best without the "return home" factor to stuff things up. I also enjoyed the break and to be able to once more meet up with all the interstate guys. I think this chase has provided me with opportunities and experiences beyond my expectation. We always say that this time of the year is the best time but we rely on mother nature producing the goods. Well after several observed supercells - especially the ones in the past week, I think I have learned so much of what I had read in the research over the internet. The actual chase I feel went well with groups chasing their own areas of interest and in some cases meeting up near the same storm - funny that!!! It was represented by 4 states which is excellent. Unfortunately, floods were a problem and kept us hugged to the coastal regions and tablelands. I feel though that the terrain in Australia will always pose a problem to observe tornadoes. It also explains why tornadoes can easily go unreported in Australia. One prime example of that is the supercell that developed very rapidly near Grafton last Friday. The based developed so low that a small hill hid our view for 5 - 10 minutes and a wall cloud was observed. We will not know if a tornado was evident!!! And this system was within 10km from town and rapidly moving NNE. Enough said wait until the videos at the ASWA meeting Saturday 16th December 2000 and for those interested - AMOS this Wednesday. I actually felt for those unable to come to this particular chase but we all know that will never be possible. I would also like to reitereate the importance of those who kept in contact and also provided updates for the chasers. I think as a unit, we have helped get some of the most impressive and important video footage and photographs on storms Australia has ever produced!!! This is especially from an educational perspective. Well done all. ----------------------------------------- Jimmy Deguara Storm Chaser and Mathematics Teacher from Schofields, Sydney NSW Australia e-mail:jdeguara at ihug.com.au Web Page with Michael Bath Australian Severe Weather Home Page http://www.australiasevereweather.com President of the Australian Severe Weather Association http://www.severeweather.asn.au +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ X-Authentication-Warning: new-smtp1.ihug.com.au: Host p18-max41.syd.ihug.com.au [203.173.147.146] claimed to be storm.ihug.com.au X-Sender: jdeguara at pop.ihug.com.au X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Version 5.0 Date: Mon, 11 Dec 2000 23:54:16 +1100 To: aussie-weather at world.std.com From: Jimmy Deguara Subject: Re: aus-wx: NSW storms tomorrow. Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi Matt and all, Even though the storms will be ok tomorrow, I think the upper level winds will provide for more pulse like storms. The middle level winds are stronger then the upper level winds which can easily interrupt the stability of updraughts - unless of course if they were powerful. I also detect that the temps at 500 will be around -12/-13 although that is not much of a difference. Having said all this though, the storms will be photogenic due to the ample drier air aloft. The lapse rates are quite good for tomorrow. I will chase tomorrow.
