Hi Andrew,
I don't think the lightning tracker is working either as there is a lot of lightning around us at the moment and it hasn't showed up on the tracker.

Where abouts are you?  Don't forget that the lightning tracker will only show the cloud to ground strikes..

During the day cumulus clouds were increasing in size and numbers and you could just feel something was going to give. At work I had a pretty good view to the north and west. At this stage I would like to thank Paul Yole for his updates during the day. There were some very heavy looking clouds to the West which produced heavy rain and possible hail at Pt Adelaide and Largs. Although the main feature was a very dark horizon growing bigger and bigger from the north. The Thunderstorm was getting closer and was headed straight for the Parafield area, I was happy I was about to leave work. After leaving work I drove to pick up Kathryn, and then drove home to get the equipment. By this time it started to rain. There was a nice looking Guster to the front of the cell which looked okay, but it was right over head. We decided to goto the local lookout at Wynn Vale and watch the storm from there. There was a blanket of rain about to hit Parafield, with Lightning every few seconds or so. Mainly CC type lightning with the odd CG. Thunder was almost heard constantly at one stage, it was good to be in it again. Rain fell over Wynn Vale which lasted what seemed to be forever. Murphey was present aswell, a nice CG had hit just South of Parafield but I had the video camera pointing in the wrong direction, another CG had hit North of Parafield on the back end of the storm. At this stage the storm was raining it'self out and dying. We decided to head back home after the storm had passed and checked the Observations etc.. Parafield recorded 20.2mm of rain out of the one storm which wasn't a bad effort to say the least. Convection around the place was still good although new developments South of Mt Lofty looked hopeful for more storms, but it never happened. With almost a week and a bit of cumulus growing in the afternoon and looking quite solid, I guess something had to give eventually. I'm only using Melbourne radar and it seems to be ok. SA Lightning tracker hasn't updated since 12.43pm Friday. I know, refresh Bussie :-) Done that.
Very humid here this morning after our heavy dumping of rain last night. We had the 25mm fall in 25 minutes and then another 3mm not long after. I'll get the grass mown one day. Hope I don't run over the dog.....

A large band of strong thunderstorms developed on a NW-SE line but unfortunately they ended up under the precipitation rather than watching the leading edge advance eastwards through N NSW. This morning skies are clearing though there is a lot of cloud N of them, but fairly clear to the W. Jimmy reports weak congestus forming already (10.40am). If they stay west of the huge cloud mass over S central Qld, they should be alright today, maybe not as active as yesterday, but you never know. Their plan at this stage is to make it across to the southeast of Qld by Monday afternoon to get the trough there, so I don't think they'll be staying too far west all day today. Hey all!

What a day yesterday was! storms started forming just after lunch about 100kms inland so I decided to head to my new lookout at radio hill about 50kms south of Karratha which has awesome 360 degree views. While I was there I watched a nice line of storms build up with HUGE anvils which developed right over me with the occasional rumble of thunder but only one CG :/. I finally decided to head back home at about 6:30pm, got back at around 7:15pm thinking that was the end of today's events. Then while organising dinner I checked Dampier local and here was a RED cell on local...looked out the back and there was CONSTANT lightning to my SE, WHOOHOO :D. I quickly got my camera's back into the 4wd and headed towards Roebourne where I got and awesome lightning display while driving towards the storm with heaps of inner cloud lightning and the occasional CC's and CG's. Unfortunately the cell decided to die on me as I drove closer :/. Ahh well, still got a nice show and there is more to come today!! WHOOHOO :D check out my forecasts!!

I can help here. If you're using 27 MHz CB, then there's no problem, you can use channel 33. However, if you're using AM, then you might annoy the SSB operators, because there's a general tendancy (dunno if it can be called a gentlemens agreement these days) to use AM on the lower channels (up to around 20 or so) and SSB on the higher channels. On UHF, it's a little different. The channels 1 - 8 and 31 - 38 are assigned to repeaters in pairs. 1 and 31 are paired up for a channel 1 repeater, 2/32, 3/33, etc. A repeater listens on the higher channel of its pair (31 - 38, known as the input channel), and if there is a signal, it simultaneously relays that signal out on the lower (1 - 8, known as the output channel) channel of its pair. Channel 33 is the input channel of the 3/33 pair, and if you're talking to other chasers on 33 UHF, you may be unknowingly interfering with a channel 3 repeater somewhere and annoying a lot of people, who are further frustrated, by not being able to tell you you're causing a problem! And, as someone pointed out, this sort of operation within range of a repeater may be illegal (I haven't read the CB LCD for a while). Anyway, hope that clears up things a bit. Tony, VK3JED .. Hard to find many below 15C, those that are are located in the Riverina and lower west. Here in Wollongong the temp is 18.9 with DP of 18.4. The cloud that has persisted most of day has a base of only about 150m, creating fog problems for motorists along the Illawarra escarpment. There has been very fine drizzle on and off for most of the day, so fine that radar cannot detect it. Hi all

Just been on the phone to Anthony and they are staying at Charleville tonight, but having trouble finding accommodation that is not flooded out. Apparently the Warrego River rose rapidly today and has now started entering people's homes...still only a minor flood warning from the BoM though.

Today's action included a possible supercell southeast of Charleville, although this has not yet been confirmed. Anthony said it had a "supercellular look to it and a classic supercell flank". He said it was over Markarine(sp?), a station in the area but I haven't been able to locate this on my map so am not sure exactly where that is. They said the lightning show was spectacular, with about 120 strokes from the anvil out the side of the storm, and this can be seen on the tracker in the area, with active storms still going in that SE/S central Qld area.

The general plan tomorrow is for them to stay around there, as we thought that SE QLD may not be that great tomorrow due to the huge amounts of cloud present there at the moment. Areas on the western edge of the cloud may be OK, such as the NW slopes of NSW, but it is all very dependent on any clearing that occurs. The SW of Queensland doesn't look quite as acitve tomorrow as the trough moves on, so they may use tomorrow as a rest day to recover from the last few days of activity. The action should hot up again from around Tuesday with the development of the next trough through the area, with another 3-4 days of storms looking on the cards for SW Qld/NW NSW.

If anyone has info on the flood situation in the area, please let me know so I can pass it on to them as the last thing they want to do is get stranded in a town for days because of flood waters...thanks :)

Hi Matt, Everyone

Charleville has actually broken the November 24 hour rainfall record, with 93mm recorded to 9am this morning.  The old record was either 91.9mm (Airport station) or 85.9 (Post Office station), depending on which station records the 24 hours to 9am figure which appears in the BOM rainfall totals.

The Charleville river height station figure on the BOM site hasn't updated since 10am this morning, but 27 Mile Garden (upstream of Charleville) and Bakers Bend (downstream of Charleville) are both updating, showing moderate flood levels and still rising! The fact that levels are still rising at 27 Mile Garden is a concern, hopefully the chasers don't get flooded in.

Looking forward to the possibility of some storms tomorrow - although there is obviously an awfull lot of mid/upper level moisture, i wouldn't mind betting on rain clearing to afternoon and overnight storms, probably spreading out to rain areas again.  Fingers crossed

Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi all, i just got a phone call from a mate of mine holidaying in vic atm. He was travelling on the A30 approx 20k's from Shepperton when he saw a wall cloud on a cell. Hes not a chaser but is well educated on storms and what to look for. Anyway he mounted a small chase and after getting closer he stopped he said he then saw a a funnel extend about halfway to the ground. Hes pretty sure the tornado was on the ground for approx 5mins. He got within about 500m of it, said there was hot air rushing in from behind him and he got the shit blasted out of him right after it. Sounds like he was right in there. He took pics the whole time and he will send me a copy of the pics soon. He was pretty excited about it all. I hope this hooks him as he reckons the whole thing was the most awesome thing he has ever experienced. Im not sure if this was the same cell as the other reported nader or not but he said it was just before dark (i think). Thought the Vic ppl might wanna know.
