Hey all,

As you all heard chris and I had a very eventful chase yesterday seeing out first funnel just after 10:30am to the N of Swan Hill.  By 1:30pm the funnel count was up to 7 and the tornado count up to 1.  We also encountered a massive storm system to the S of Sea Lake which eventually hit Oyen (we didn't make it that far) of which we got some spectacular footage and a strongly rotating meso.  I'll hopefully get around to doing a full chase report before th big chase starts this week.

More chasing likely today.

We also observed two funnels (simultaneously) a little later in the day from a similar situation. Macca ----- Original Message ----- From: Leslie R. Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi all, I must say that last night it was the most impressive turnout for a meeting of ASWA in Sydney. Wehave never had 24 turn up so far - not even for the AGM. We had a visitor from Canada, David Sills who wanted to have a look at the footage and also was impressed with what we had to offer. He also congratulated ASWA on how organised it was and I think the numbers in ASWA blew him out of his boots. I would also like to thank Paul Rands and Dean McWhinney who also attended their first meeting. Dean joined as a member. It seemed like they enjoyed themselves at the meeting. The meeting featured the Sydney tornado - thanks to Matt and also Con. It then ventured onto the supercell near Coffs Harbour two days later which David believes that there was a tornado I had observed ( and a suspicious one which seemed to touch the ground below the main wall updraught tower). All in all it was impressive footage by all and also the photographs were great. Thanks to all for making it a special night. ----------------------------------------- Jimmy Deguara Storm Chaser and Mathematics Teacher from Schofields, Sydney NSW Australia e-mail:jdeguara at ihug.com.au Web Page with Michael Bath Australian Severe Weather Home Page http://www.australiasevereweather.com President of the Australian Severe Weather Association http://www.severeweather.asn.au +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ From: "Dane Newman" To: Subject: aus-wx: Mt Beauty report Date: Sun, 12 Nov 2000 11:26:39 +1100 X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2314.1300 Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Plenty of rain up here in Tawonga Sth/Mt Beauty since i moved here. A shower or two and possible thunder, mostly near the hills and northern suburbs is forecast for tomorrow which sounds ok although I won't get my hopes up. The part of tomorrows forecast that worries me is that it will be mostly cloudy and there will be a relatively strong sea breeze in the afternoon, hopefully this won't stop some good convection occurring. I suppose it all depends on the positioning of the trough. For the reat of the week thunderstorms look very likely, a few upper level disturbances especially from WA when one is at the moment may interact with all of the moisture to cause some very good thunderstorm activity. Anyway it would be great to see a thunderstorm every day this week:-) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Strange, but I used to be terrified of storms too, like about 10 years or so ago. Someone mentioned though about exposure therapy, and I agree with that theory. I lived in Singapore for 18 months where you can set your watch by the afternoon storm, and you just had to deal with them...thinking back, I wasted such a great opportunity there to watch some awesome storms by being terrified of them! But yeah, just watch as many as possible from the safety of inside, then gradually venture outside, until you feel comfortable doing that, then eventually you may even be chasing them one day too! You've just got to keep everything in perspective though, as long as you do things safely, there is no real reason to be worried.

Treat the storm with respect as others have said...and beware of the greatest threat...lightning. If you take this into account and take the necessary lightning precautions, there should be no real problems.

Happy storm watching!

Hi Carl & all.

You may not be far from the mark there - it really depends on the next Madden-Julian pulse which is currently located near the TC you mentioned.

Hopefully, as the BOM forecast it will develop the monsoon trough in the Southern Hemisphere, it will be a significant pulse to create the 1st of many Australian TC's this year......

There are green bits on the radar but i dont know how accurate they are when its such a big rainband. At 1130 they say for today and tomorrow and at 330 for tonight and tomorrow, a lot of the time when they say chance tstorms i dont know if they mean for today or tomorrow, I think they should do it like the regional 4cast, and have tonight seperate!.. maybe i should try to learn the charts like most of you guys and not need to read them :)).. anyway chance tstorms and heavy falls sometime tonight or tomorrow!.. happy thunderday .. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
