Hey everyone.

Some of the best tcu this year seen today over the ranges. Its been awhile since we have seen this site. A very nicely structured storm sitting SE of Katoomba, with a nice thick anvil. It went 40-100mm intensity not to long ago but seems to be dying out. There is further activity to my northwest and south. The seems to be a very nice storm near Goulburn according to radar and lightning tracker. Unfortunately most of this activity is all moving southwards.
We may be lucky and something might kick up later, maybe a lightning show. Hopefully this the start to a interesting few days :)

I didn't realise until I did this how extraordinary an event it was. Some long standing 24-hour October rainfall records were broken on either the 18th or 19th as the double-whammy rainband crossed Kangaroo Island and points north. Neptune Island had its two heaviest October raindays (in 33 years computer record) in succession. Some of the 48 hour totals to 9am 19/10/00 must be October records -- 93.4 at Yankalilla on the southern Fleurieu Peninsula, and 92.0 at Penneshaw PO, Cape Willoughby and Allandale on nearby Kangaroo Island. Apologies if Blair has already pointed all this out, but I couldn't find any postings on the detail of it. -- Laurier Williams Australian Weather News & Links http://ausweather.simplenet.com +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ From: wbc at ozemail.com.au (Laurier Williams) To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Subject: Re: aus-wx: ABC Storm Documentary.... Hi everyone,
The water vapour images show a nice dry tongue of air flowing into the low with the jetstream.  I wonder if we may see some severe storms popping up through NSW today given the amount of moisture available?

Cairn Curren is about 120km or so NW of Melbourne and Trentham 70km away. A few other areas inthe area reported 24hr totals of close if not above 100mm. Also of note is the weekly rainfall total of 222mm for Mount Buffalo. Not too sure how accurate this is as they were reporting 98mm after last Thursday's storms/rain and 98mm again after today's effort. Coincidence - maybe - not sure. Is this a record Blair? What's the average for the month up there? Also of note was Thursday's rainfall at my house in Greensborough. We copped the brunt of an afternoon storm which dumped 26mm in just 10 minutes - and I thought my mum was exagerating when she said there was a river running through the backyard but with these figures then obviously not. From a fairly sodden Melbourne.
