It also is believed to form on sea breeze convergence. And yep I do have pics - but for those wanting too see Hector now go to this link:- http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/nt/inside/workshop This is a picture of hector - but the pic is back to front!!! I have told the BOM and they agree - and said they would fix it some 7 months ago....... anyway - its more spectacular looking from East Point. Anyway seems that the storm cam people have either gone bust or ??? I have tried ringing the phone number for 3 days and no answer. I will drop by the building on Mon / Tues to see if what I can find out. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Sep 2000 10:16:01 +1000 From: MSC - Jane ONeill X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.5 [en] (Win95; I) X-Accept-Language: en To: Aussie-wx Subject: aus-wx: OFFTOPIC: MSC Updates Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Happy Saturday!! Everybody,

Does *the cloud* fit into any of these descriptions????

Hi,
I am trying to work out what clouds are what. If anyone could reply either
confirming or correcting my thoughts, it would be much appreciated!!!

Stratus    -    Is stratus the low lying cloud which covers the entire sky
and
covers the peaks of some hills?

Cumulus    -    Cumulus is the small clusters of fluffy cloud.

Sratocumulus    -    Is the lower form of  dotty clouds.

Altocumulus    -    Is the higer form of dotty clouds.

Nimbostratus Altostratus Cirrostratus

Do they cover the entire sky? (all at different heights).
Or are they small streaks? (all at different heights).

Cumulonimbus    -    Is the tall dominating cauliflower.

Altocumulus    -    Long streaks

Cirrus    -    The really high swish-swash wavy affect.

Please, Please correct me if I'm wrong!!!

Thanks in advance

I am at an absolute loss as to why the BoM in there forecast for Monday in Sydney, have SE winds, and the chance of a shower ! (olympic forecast says coastal) All the models I have looked at point to NE 'sh winds on Monday, swinging NW'ly later in the day/Tuesday.. The BoM forecast for the Hunter has SE to NE winds, Illawarra and South Coast have NE to NW winds on monday. If anyone could shed some light on the situation to explain it, it would be appreciated. Hey all!

Some VERY nice convection has developed in the Central Indian Ocean over the last few hours....The convection is currently in an area of low wind shear, so there is a possibility it could form into the 2nd TC of the year for the Southern Indian Ocean ( there was a weak TC back in August ). Nothing on JTWC yet but I'd say they will issue a formation alert soon, NRL are already investigating ===> http://kauai.nrlmry.navy.mil/tc_thumbs/20000923.0631.gms-5.vis.x.INVEST.92S.jpg

Great to see the tropical season is coming together EARLY! Very nice storms developing in the NT and Kimberley all very good signs for the 00/01 TC season!

Here in Karratha it was another warm/hot day with a max temp of 37.3C with a weak seabreeze at midday doing little to cool the temp down....still 34.2C at 3:40pm. Early next week Mon/Tues looks like the Pilbara will see the first 40C of the Spring with another heat trough developing over the area. :)

Regards
