Question: did he really just mean a cut off low, or did he mean a northern hemisphere style occlusion where the warm sector air [I think this is right?] is lifted clear off the surface? If it is an occlusion - why is the front still shown as a cold front and not an occluded one? [here we are back to the fronts again!] It often seems with these cut off lows where the front is 'circulating around the low' that the air behind the front is recurculated air, quite warm. Okay - I'd better stop or I'll start on about cold pools and thermal troughs....... ;) _________________________________________________________________________ Phil 'Paisley' Bagust paisley at cobweb.com.au [H] Philip.Bagust at unisa.edu.au [W] Paisley's Playpen at http://www.chariot.net.au/~paisley2 "Nothing matters anymore, not even the fact that nothing matters" L.Grossberg _________________________________________________________________________ +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ From: "Les Crossan" To: "aus-wx" Subject: aus-wx: STORM: For those with wintertime SDS Date: Mon, 21 Aug 2000 23:16:25 +0100 Organization: Cosmic EuroCon X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2615.200 Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com

Perth City was 2.1 at the same time, and that managed to get to 1.3 at 6:59am, a new August record for the city site, not directly comparable though since it moved to Mount Lawley, but more than likely tonight on the news they will be saying "the coldest Perth night in August on record overnight". Hey all

The monster cat 5's continue around the world............what's going on ? :) is it a sign of things to come for our season :P
Currently Super Typhoon Bilis is heading for SE Taiwan and landfall is expected tonight sometime just after 12utc. Currently it has sustained winds of 140knots with gusts to 170knots and is forecast to strengthen FURTHER to 145knots sustained gusts to 175knots! that's gusts over 320km/h!!!! looks like Taiwan is in for a VERY rough night unless something dramatic happens and it missed them to the south.

currently showing a very tight eye :)

Also the tropics are heating up in the Atlantic with the 4th storm of the season Debby about to be upgraded to Hurricane Strength on the next advice...at this stage looks like it will make landfall over Puerto Rico then travel W/NW then more NW towards the weekend to head towards Miami.....late Sunday....early next week looks like it will be VERY interesting for  Southern Florida
