YHOT Mt Hotham is actually the new Dinner Plain airport AWS, substantially lower (~200 or 300m) than HOTH, which is the long-established AWS on the summit. It has been throwing up some very strange obs in the past few days, and a gust ratio of nearly 4 to 1 seems unbelievable. Unfortunately, the summit AWS is out of service, and the Falls Creek AWS was reporting calm conditions until someone did the 9am obs and knocked the ice/snow off the anemometer, after which the wind immediately rose to 16 kts gusting 24 ;-). Hi all

To Ben and all that have setup Name Zero domain names :) and HATE that little advertising thing at the bottom here is a little fix :)

<SCRIPT>
<!--

// if someone loads this page in a frame, It will reload without the frames

  if (top != self)
    top.location.href="//www.wn.com.au/karrathaweather/";
file://-->
</SCRIPT>

This script should be placed just below the....

<html>

<head>

part of the HTML code to work correctly
You must change the href="//www.wn.com.au/karrathaweather/" to your URL

This even works for framed pages like the Karratha Weather home page :)

Have fun and if you have any questions send em on over :)))

OH and thanks go out to Chop-wx AkA Michael Fewings for that little script THANKS Mike :)

I read some details in a South African online newspaper, but since I don't have a world atlas on me at present, so I don't know the altitudes of the snow-affected towns. Looking at the models, it seems South America (esp. Argentina) is also in the grip of icy southerlies. Mild and partly cloudy in Christchurch today though. However, the situation, which has been paralysed for weeks, is finally changing as a trough crosses from the west. MetService is forecasting snow to 'low-levels on the southern South Island ranges' tomorrow. The International Crop Summaries from NOAA/US Dept of Agriculture at http://www.usda.gov/oce/waob/jawf/wwcb.html are also useful. Noticed that there is still no "snow" in the text forecasts for later in the week. Is this a fairly standard RFC procedure, that is, to wait for a day or two out before putting snow in the forecast? Does the RFC follow a certain protocol for key words used in forecasting? It sometimes seems a little confusing... * Had a funny experience with the Jehovah's Witness folk at the door on Thursday. To cut along story short, my Jack Russell terrier stole the ladies glove and ran around the yard (He gets excited in the wind) and then after their usual Watch Tower promotion (we had an enjoyable/brief-ish chat on theology/philosophy) we got into chatting about the weather! For 15 minutes they asked questions about local weather etc without once mentioning the "End Times and Proselyting Australia on a Push Bike" and the guy is keen on joining ASWA! So, who converted who? :-) It would have made a great photo, me standing there with my weather text book and them with their watchtowers!
