A few answers to your questions that may be of interest. 1. In recent times the greatest snow depth in the blue Mtns occurred in the event of 18-19 July 1965. Katoomba had 30 cms and Mt victoria 45 cms. On 1-9-1970, there was 25 cms at Mt Victoria, 23 in Blackheath and 15 cms at Wentworth Falls. Katoomba also had 30 cms on 5 July 1900 - no report avilable from Mt Victoria or Blackheath then. 2. In 1965, snow fell on 3 consecutive days and on 2 days in July 1900 3. no reliable detials avialable 4. Lowest temp ever in Katoomba -8.2 and -5.6 in Mt victoria. 5. Snow was reported in sproingwood (1 cm only) on 19 July 1965 Heavey snow covered Blue Mtns in 1834 and again in 1836. Both years quoted settlers in the Hawkesbury Valley reporting the hills to the west were white. hope this has been of helpl. see my column in Telegrah tomorrow. Barry has confirmed it as a weak short lived F-0 tornado, 30m wide and 600m long. So it would have only been on he ground for maybe 2-3 mins. We both also agreed that there would have been other tornadoes especially to the SW of Perth but events like this do tend to take a few weeks for the reports to flow through so we will just have to wait and see. That makes 4 confirmed tornadoes for WA's winet so far. I did chase on and off all weekend without much luck except some very nice winter CB's. Just out of interest, in Blackheath, I've observed 7 snow days this season, not including another day where sleet was observed. In late May, falling snow was observed at my place on the 27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th, with the most snow by far observed on the evening of the 28th, to a depth of 7 to 9cm throughout Blackheath. The 29th/30th of June (Thursday, Friday) saw exciting falls with the temp dropping quickly from around 4 degrees to near zero in a matter of minutes on the Thursday morning. Small intense hail hit first, lightly covering the ground and was immediately followed by moderate and persistant snow for almost two hours that left 2 to 3cm on the ground. Friday saw more snow (4 to 5cm) that began to fall at around midnight and was heavier by 2am. The morning quickly warmed up by 8am though as the low off the Sydney coast made its presence felt and got us to 7 degrees by afternoon. Hello All. I writing to inform you of the proposed plan for showing our storm chase videos at the AGM. As you can imagine we have lots of videos of some very exciting chases and storms. I for one can't wait to see some of our interstate members footage. However, we will need to have some organisation about the video sessions, otherwise we may not get to see everybody's, and we want to see YOURS ! Listed below are the simple steps to follow to ensure everything runs smoothly and everybody gets the best out of your session. 1. Reply to me ASAP if you intend to show footage. If you do not you may find that you will have to wait until all other videos are seen, or may risk missing out. 2. In the first instance each person will be allocated up to 15 mins to show their video footage. The best format would be to prepare a separate tape of up to 15mins featuring edited highlights from various chases. But if you want to show 15 mins of just one chase that's fine. 3. The tape must be parked at the start of the footage. 4. You can pause the tape briefly between each segment to briefly tell the audience some chase details or what to look out for in the coming segment. This will improve the experience for all. 5. If you have extra footage over and above the 15 mins this can be shown if time allows at the AGM. After which I head straight to the US to start studying. I would like to thank all of you for the informative discussions I have been privileged to be able to just observe from afar, or participate in once in a while. I wish all of you the best in your future pursuits and will endeavor to make contact again once I'm set up in the US, and don't worry, you'll all know when I catch my first tornado on the plains. Cheers, Lyle p.s. could the aus-wx moderator please remove me from the mailing list - thanks. - - ---==( lyle_pakula at hotmail.com )==--- - - . / \ . /~~~\/ \ " No Friends On A Powder Day " / \ \ / \ \ +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------
