I have lived in Sydney for 13 years,--i am originally from Melbourne-- and
one of the major differences i have observed between the two cities is the
temperature drop from the onset of a southerly change.

In Melbourne, when a southerly moves thru the temperature usually suffers a
big drop. I recall not long ago after a string of hot days and nites, that
the change moved thru early morning, and the temperature had dropped under
15 degrees from mid 30s-40s that day.

Whereas, i have noticed in Sydney, the southerly change is usually less
subtle. Instead of going from 35 to 15, the temps drop only a few degrees. I
remember being up here the first year,it was a hot day, and the weatehr
report told us that the southerly change had pushed thru over all of sydney,
yet the temperature had only change by about 3 degrees. We were bemuzed,
looking for drizzle, and ready to turn on the heater.
This summer however, it has been more Melbourne like, with the temps falling
much more than they usually would. This is certainly not the " typical
heatwave/southerly thing". Much too much difference in the temperature
falls.

Why did you send a program (Happy99.exe) which had a possible virus on it for?

I have had warnings of this program so in future do not send programs such
as this over the NET.

If you are not sure if you sent this or not, please check your computer for
the latest virus.

Hi all,

This is just a caution note, I received this personal email thismorning,
from someone on the list attached to the email was the program happy99.exe.

I have heard that this program contains a virus, I am not game to try it
out, so for now I will keep clear of it.

If it is the same program, you will see firework on the screen or something
similar, then, it starts affecting your email, going through your
attachments and attaching it'self and being send accross the net for
someone else to open it.

I got that information from http://www.e-musicbox.com/happy99virus.htm who
apparently had a bad case of Happy99.

http://www.goldenplace.dk/Crosswinds.net/help12.htm <---here is a good
description of the virus and what it does.

Please be careful!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a possible virus, it's a trojan horse which propogates itself by altering your
mail settings so that it sends itself, once run.

No nasties beside this except for the fireworks display when its run first time.

Get a decent virus scanner - it'll remove it.

Hi all,

I know some people have commented on this - but I thought I would let
other people know, that the person who sent this DID NOT INTENTIONALLY
SEND THIS - for the record, the virus is able to attach itself to
emails, and sends itself - so the person does not even know they sent
it! The best thing is just to delete it.

Hi Everyone,

Some further heavy rain in northern Queensland overnight - Tully took
the cake in a big way, recording 260mm in the 18 hours to 3am this
morning.. other totals (all to 3am this morning) include Cardwell 137mm,
Cairns 129mm, Normanton 127mm, Ignham 123mm and Lucinda 97mm..

The Tully river is flooding, and it's expected to peak later on today
cutting the Bruce Highway - should make the news for sure if it does cut
the highway..

The Herbert river is also in flood, with MAJOR flooding around the
Halifix area..

I added a report to BSCH yesterday about the heavy rain, and i'll be
writing up another report tonight by the looks of it.. just a reminder
that the reports in the Recent Events section are added within 24 hours
of the event (normally within a few hours), and i don't post many URL's
for reports to the list..

[snip Sydney Heat stuff]

My native measure of heat intensity is an ancient tree fern
in a sheltered and shaded position in our front yard. The
last time that this fern got burned to the extent that it
did on Saturday was during February in 1998...Prior to that
was the during the bush fires of 1994 and on at least 5
other occasions during its 50-year life. Whether this tree
fern is burned or not depends on two factors 1) The ambient
temperature and 2) the reflected solar radiation intensity.
Each factor on its own has never been enough to burn this
fern in it's 50+ year life, according to the now deceased
original owners of our home. But when both heat and the
reflected solar radiation strike with maximum intensity,
as was Saturday, February 5, 2000, it is very damaging to
this fern. On this occasion, the burning was more severe
than in both 1994 and 1998.

Sorry Guys,
My Brother opened it stupidly with some of his email from a person who also didn't know he had it. Luckily i haven't sent it to 3500 people like he did. If anyone did open it and have it now on their computer i suggest this page.
and download the Happy99 cleaner. It will delete it out of your computer and tell you who you have sent it to.

Radar indicates most activity to the north - Ayr to Cardwell, but still plenty of cloud streaming onto the central coast. Road cut around Ingham for a while, and the QGR line. Largest unofficial recording for period of 720 mm from a farm 15 km NW of Eungella, which is about 80 km west of Mackay in the ranges. But when both heat and the reflected solar radiation strike with maximum intensity, as was Saturday, February 5, 2000, it is very damaging to this fern. On this occasion, the burning was more severe than in both 1994 and 1998. I could feel Sol penetrating deeply:-) The temperature in the shade wasn't that high, maybe just 27C, but that Sun burned something fierce to the extent that I don't remember ever experiencing before. I put 30+ blockout on my neck and arms then donned a decent hat...I forgot about the poor plants until I noticed some dipping their leaves in a sick sort of way later in the afternoon. Hey all! :)

Well its been a huge last two nights here in Karratha.......Late Saturday night early sunday morning we had a huge storm cell that formed out in the Great Sandy desert and moved all the way across the pilbara and hit Karratha 5 hrs later at 4am with Squalls and heavy rain...26mm from that storm.
This is a sat loop of the Sat night/sun morning storm..thanx to Ben Quinn for making the loop :) http://www.bsch.simplenet.com/archiveddata/otherstates/wa/05-02-2000/satpicloo%5b.gif
Then Last night/early this morning we had TWO! Squall lines move thru 1hr apart from each other, first at 1.30am then the next at about 2.30. I was out getting video during the whole event :) hehe
19mm and a Gust of 38knots!

Will be Capturing Video off the camera tonight

Currently 41.7C in Karratha at 12:30pm (more heat to fuel overnight storms) hehe :)

The link below will take you to a page that will give you some idea of what to expect (excuse the blue tinge to this page - had something to do with the redhead I used as a model - tshirts & polos are actually white & the windcheaters are grey merle) http://www.rubix.net.au/~cadence/fashion.htm Anyone can order - the only pre-requisite is that your money and your order must be to your ASWA state rep or me by 29th February. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact either your state rep or me. (meanwhile I'll go away and practice taking better pictures) Jane ------------------------------------------------------- Jane ONeill ASWA - Victoria Australian Severe Weather Assocn (ASWA Inc.)
