Hi every1,

I know this may be slightly off-topic... but for anyone that still works
their own web pages (HTML-wise) this page is a god-send!

http://www.hidaho.com/colorcenter/cc.html

Just muck about with the colours (RGB) on the left panel, until you've got
the colours you like, then cut-and-paste the HTML in the centre panel...what
could be easier!

And you can vary the text, links etc...! (Geez, I'm excited!)

Cheers,
Kevin from Wycheproof

Sydney-Orange (according to my rather crude map) is about
200 km as the Crows (sorry, Adelaide) fly. If I understood
Les' emails correctly this puts the radar beam/pulse into the
ballpark of 5 km AGL / several km wide (for a .5 deg. scan).
Anything that does not have big fat drops in a big fat volume
a long way off the ground might not look that exciting on radar.
That's why ASWA should send out its spies...

Cheers, Harald

Well if it's the way the Adelaide crows fly you would have to put Orange
around 1200 Km from Sydney :) but you would have to put just as many stops
on the way there also.

It is actually about 255Km by road to Orange

Adelaide's number 1 crows hater :)

Hey Ben from Brisbane here..

Not much happening at the moment, but i thought i would let ppl know
where the chasers are at the moment..

Anthony Cornelius, Jimmy D and the crew are at Cunnamulla, and will stay
put and chase around that area (or maybe further SW) today.. they are
probably in quite a good spot for some action..

Matt Smith and James Harris are currently heading towards Nyngan in the
Upper Western (i think) district of NSW, and will more than likely head
for Bourke..

Jane and Clive were heading for Moree an hour or so ago (probably there
by now)..

Satellite pictures are horrid at the moment with plenty of cloud.. but
the main cloud band has cleared cunamulla and bourke/Nyngan, with only
low and mid level cloud behind it (which does appear to be breaking up
in some parts).. and there is some development in SW QLD and NW NSW..

Hi Everyone

We are currently at Nyngan, at the local library, conditions are rainy,
winds have picked up a bit, and it is overcast with lots of mid level crap
around. We will more than likely head to Bourke, going by the sat pics (Bit
of a clearing in the cloud band) and AVN forecasts. Hopefully some isolated
activity will form, we will see i guess. I think it is unlikely we will
follow the trough anywhere inland further than Bourke, as its just desert
out that way. Hopefully we can meet up with Jane/Clyve and the rest of the
bunch who are at Cunnamulla or however you spell it.
Hopefully tues/weds will bring more activity.

Matt Smith

Bathurst is sort of wedged between higher ground in nearly all sides. To the
east near Mt Lambie it goes 1000m, same again west near Orange, and
southeast towards Oberon. Bathurst itself is about 600-700m.

Left the 'gong at 8am. Some middle layer alto-stratus with isolated
castelanus, marking the weak trough. Could just make out some Cu to the far
NW. By 10.30am at Lithgow there was impressive congestus, but I was not
impressed by the wind, a cool west. This no doubt was aiding the development
of the congestus by lifting along the Blue Mountains rear escarpment. I
pushed on to Mudgee as I hoped that it would be warmer. I have never liked
storms that are isolated over high ground. To me that means borderline
conditions.

The road from Lithgow to Mudgee for the first 20km is not that great view
wise, but after Carpertee the country opens and it is a good road for
chasing, except there are no eastwards options.

A Mudgee at 12.30pm and I went to the local library and checked internet,
there were storms back over the Blue Mountains, plus others in a line from
Bathurst westwards. There were also some echoes started to pick up north of
Mudgee itself.

The convection was very weak everywhere, and dread o' dread without upper
winds the anvils where spreading everywhere into light rain patches. I
followed a better looking cell to Gulgong, although the radio was picking
static I could not observe any CG's.

I decided to push further north to Ulan and the Golden Hwy junction, this
road runs from the Hunter to Dubbo. The storm development had been drifting
NW, not usual but I think in response to the trough development towards the
NW. At the junction I had two options. To the west there were weak cells,
the best was north over the Coolah Tops, the west end of the Liverpool
ranges. To the east was mostly old anvils, but in a clearing spot there was
a nice congestus. I drove about 10km towards Coolah, I really wanted that
Coolah Tops storm as it had a visible lowering. I finally decided that this
option was not reachable by decent roads. I headed back towards Merriwa. The
congestus developed into a half decent storm, and at Merriwa the sky looked
promising so I hung until again because of the lack of upper winds it was
anvil spreading everywhere. I gave up and decided to head towards home. From
Merriwa to Cessnock it was light rain from decaying anvils, I think also the
south change helped some turning it into a large area of light rain.

All in all a waste of time storm wise, but some good chasing territory
uncovered around Merriwa, great vistas.

Michael

Hi everyone, It looks like a stronger jetstream accompanying a cold front
may bring the possibility of severe storms later next week for SA, VIC and
NSW/ SE QLD. Presently, it looks like SA for Friday, VIC/ W NSW for Sat,
NE NSW, SE QLD for Sun/Mon - Paul G.

Hey Ben from Brisbane here..

Well the chasers are just south of the QLD/NSW border enjoying a very
photogenic squall line at the moment.. so far today they have had plenty
of photogenic weather, and while i was talking to them on the phone
there were plenty of "ooh's" and "aaah's" as the storm they were in
front of was letting of impressive Cg's..

You can see the storms on the satellite pictures around the Bourke
area.. they actually look quite nice.. there are also storms developing
to their far NW (probably around the Bedourie area)..

Matt Smith and James Harris met up with the main group of chasers
earlier on this afternoon.. and are chasing the same storms i have
described above..

The west coast is also looking good for Wednesday at this stage, this from
the BoM's Extended Period Forecast for the South-West:

A significant upper level disturbance approaches the west coast on
Wednesday and
at this stage there is a reasonably likelihood of widespread showers and
thunderstorms developing especially in western districts including the west
coast.
