Wow Greg! An excellent first attempt. I love the many branches shooting from the

I love alliteration.

A couple of a storms popped up down south, some going to the red i was told. Anyway, the thing i found interesting about the storms on the last 8 days that i have seen, is that most of them have had very oragnised flanking lines. The ones today had almost textbook flanking lines, stretching back far beyond the storm. The Storm in sydney on wednesday had a moderate set of flanking lines which grew and grew as the storm intesified, so much so, they grew out of storm and behind us over the mountains. What does a flanking line say about a storm? That there are an organised group of updrafts? Weird that even some of the storms i saw on the ranges on monday also had pronouced flanking lines, and these looked nothing more that showers.
Also does anyone have any knowledge/advice on video capture cards and/or programs. I wish to make good quality stills from some video chase footage.?

I have heard unconfirmed reports of a decent storm on the Central Coast this morning? Anyone else hear? Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Given some of the latest traffic on the list that is related to operational problems with some sites, please direct any commplaints not at the persons who develop those sites (as they may be innocent) but at the "perpetrator of proprietary software despite the best efforts of open industry standards", namely Mr. Bill Gates... mailto:bill.gates at microsoft.com Despite the fact that Internet Explorer V4 is better than Internet Explorer V3 and the same goes for any software vendor...Bill's developers decided to make their own extensions to "Java". Java is Sun MicroSystems "open WORA" (Write Once, Run Anywhere) language. Now Sun took Bill to court and Bill appealed to a higher court...but to cut a long and protracted legal story short, we poor mug users are still stuck with Bill's software that will run fine on Bill-generated Java/Java-script but maybe not so fine on Java/Java-script designed to any real, proposed or industry-accepted open standard i.e 100% Java-Compatible. Coupled with this problem, some corporations and ISP's build firewall http proxies that are designed to intercept all http traffic, including traffic containing Java/Java script. Now behind the firewall that I sit, some Java is filtered out and some Java survives. Fortunately, all Java script works OK but many Java applets get toasted en-route. So I have turned off Java (applets) in my browser (Netscape 4.5). This means that I don't get the full-features of some sites, but then again these don't crash my browser because of broken Java, so I have a net win. Turning of Java in my browser also solves the broken Bill-Java also which is another win. I'm not saying that Java is bad. To the contrary, Java possibly represents the way that all software will go in the long term. My only advice in this regard is directed toward developers; that they only ever develop Java/Java script that is 100% compatible with the industry-accepted standards and they use tools to check generated code such as "weblint" to sanitise the final product. That will mean that Bill's proprietary Java extensions won't be used but in the end, service providers will have happier customers since there will be many less compatibility and interworking problems. There are other tricks of the trade which will help a person build really robust and great-performing sites - ASWA is one of those sites. But it is not appropriate for any site to go on supporting an increasing variety of software versions. That is an unreasonable support load. Although I don't agree with the perpetual march of software versions in principle, common sense must prevail and the march of new software for browsers in particular, becomes one of those inevitable facts of internet-life. If one can't cope with that, there are many good free public domain browsers around that'll run on anything that may not have the bells and whistle graphic capabilities or Java, but they can nevertheless grab the information or image that you want. Lynx is one such browser, for example. Anyhow, I hope this information has helped...just a little. I have used a "Snappy " and I am happy with it, but it is basic. I find that Hi 8 images are far better than normal 8mm or VHS C too.

Also does anyone have any knowledge/advice on video capture cards and/or programs. I wish to make good quality stills from some video chase footage.?

(a big thanks to Halden Boyd for calling me with radar info, very much appreciated), I saw some great CG's from a cell( 3 strikes hitting the ground at once..!) near Richmond somewhere, near the RAAF base maybe.. anyway i can tell you it was a few km's north of Jimmys house :), At Jimmys house and was told he was out chasing, gave him a call and met up with him as the cell dissipated, attention turned to a cell growing on the mountains and we thought we would head there to get closer to any lightning action that we might be able to photogaph later on. (Just as we drove off Jimmy stopped and helped a stranded turtle that had made its way onto the road, the turtle should be gratefull we were chasing :) After watching this storm for a while near Castlereigh (spelling?),and taking video footage, we headed to Rooty Hill and then to Macca's for some food, then back to Rooty Hill and home..Not a bad chase, certainly not a bust, and what a fortnight it has been for storms around here.. and dare i say, possibly more tomorrow. Sorry I didn't have a Sydney UBD to help you with the Richmond double cell this arvo. As you said there was a big TCu at Katoomba but it was short lived.
