I just read the qld weather notes and the last sentence says:
    
    A new surface trough is expected to move through the Bight later in the week 
    reaching the southwest of Queensland later Saturday with some showers and storms
    likely.
I'll be watching this closely.  I know its a long way off, but that's all I think about!  
Not.

If it says later Saturday, perhaps Brisbane will get it on Monday, depending on the 
speed of the system......Range:  Sunday - Tuesday next week.  Of course its still 
extremely early in the Spring, so hopefully if this doesn't work out then many other 
situations will.  

I just updated my 1998 Thunderdays list.  I animated some energex lightning GIFs to 
give everyone a better idea.   Thanks again Anthony for all those images you saved.

I wanted to inform everyone that the Global Tropical Cyclone Summary for
August is going to be a few days later than I'd hoped.     An unfortunate
circumstance usurped a good bit of my free time, plus it took a goodly
amount of time just to locate and download advisories and
observational data on recent cyclones, especially Bonnie and Earl. Also,
I have quite a large amount of data on Bonnie to sift through and select
what I want to include.

I will be doing my best to have the summary ready for dissemination by
this weekend or early next week.    My apologies to everyone for this
delay.

Another issue---over the months since I began writing the summaries,
several persons have asked for (and obtained) my permission to feature
them on their web pages.  I've tried from time to time to see if I could
access them on some of these pages, but the only two sites so far (other
than the hrd-type42 machine at TPC) that I've been able to access the
summaries are Michael V. Padua's  Typhoon '98 page and Michael Bath's
Australian Severe Weather site.    If anyone else is placing the
summaries on his/her website and wishes for me to reference the site in
the Author's Note, please notify me (giving your URL) and I'll be
happy to include a reference.

I estimate winds gusted to 40 knots in the Blacktown area between 7 and 8pm
last night (tues) - they were much lighter at other times.

There were some indications of possible showers in the form of thickening
altostratus/cumulus patches to the distant S and SW throughout the
afternoon and at sunset, but I really wasn't expecting anything. I measured
0.6mm which fell at about 10.30pm. Satellite imagery shows the instability
behind the change passing over us at this time. 

Earlier yesterday large cumulus developed just offshore Sydney and further
devloped in Cbs well to the E-SE by late morning. The cumulus appeared to
develop at the SE boundary of a persistent descending cirrocumulus ->
altocumulus patch over Sydney.

I got the same winds and a bot more rain, possibly 5mm or even more as the
gutters ran.

Melbourne has had large wind squalls today mainly in the cbd and nearby
suburbs, some of them reaching 35-40knots, yesterday Tuesday the cbd was
blanketed with hail, unusually it lasted for some time, the wind chill
factor has been quite severe.

Looks like the winter chill is going to continue after a warm spell.!!!!

Unfortunately only 3 people turned up for tonights weather meeting, that
is the founder (Jacob) James and myself.  I know that many of you all
have other things on the agenda to do, but I think that it would really
be great if more people could try to attend.  You don't need to be an
expert on weather!  If you have an interest in it, that's all you need!
Generally we talk about the past week of weather and the future week of
weather, and if nothing interesting is occurring then we talk about past
events!  It's not formal, it's just turn up and talk about weather.  I
really think it's a lot of fun, because it's the one real time that I
get a chance to talk to people about my passion, which is weather!

I just thought I'd say that :-)
