Even though in VIC we didn't get the storms like those in our northern neighbours districts, we did get some good falls - here the week has produced 16mm of rain. which is much needed.

Now...

VIC is now preparing for a major rain event, and a blast from the wintery winds and storms this weekend. From BoM, the cold front (note that cold is the word) that is due to arrive in Melb around midday tomorrow is expected to produce snowfalls on the Alps, hail to 3cm in the south, and very cold blustery winds gusting to 60kph. This is significantly like a normal winter change event.

For the NE and E regions of VIC., the BoM is forecasting between 50 and 100mm of rain plus for Saturday and Sunday. The intense low that is also forming with this front may cause more damaging storms for QLD and NSW, and low level snowfalls in TAS. (down to 300m at last call).

I'm doing a bus trip/shuttle from the winery district in NE melb to a concert near Healesville on Sat - may get pic op when this event comes in - (still working out how to convert from new camera-phone to computer so i can post at later stage).

Anyone down this way -including those who need a break from the deluge in QLD, this event is one to look out for.

I've barely had a chance to look at the charts ahead over the past couple of days due to work and the storms. It does look pretty wild for large parts of the SE. Hopefully some areas that need the rain the most can get it.

I'm in the southern Riverina ATM, east of Deniliquin. Last night all was calm at 10pm, then all of a sudden came some pretty wild wind gusts and showers. We had 5mm overnight and a total of 29mm since Tuesday. My parents farm 15kms away have recieved a total of 59mm this week! I feel as if I may as well be in Antarctica it's so cold! More wild weather and strong winds has been forecasted for the next 24hrs.

The widespread low pressure must be very unusual ?    It's 991hPa here way up on the NSW Far North Coast !  Winds are gusting to about 60ks. Low pressure has been a feature of the past few days with it dipping to around 1000 yesterday and during the thunderstorms on Thursday.

One of my colleagues from the coach driving did a job on Sat from Melb to Great Ocean Rd area SW of Geelong VIC - he said it was scary as the storm literally blew in off the coast, casuing widespread damage to trees and outcrops across the coast, and he was also driving through flash flooding on the main road down south from Anglesea.

It was a wild weekend here - reports on the news of trees and power lines down - and still flood warnings exist in the Gippsland districts - Bairnesdale received near 200mm over the weekend.

As for my concert trip - got cancelled 1hr before the event - only drove in moderate rainfall. nothing exciting (was a little 1.5cm hail storm at home for 5 mins)
