Just as a few samples from history of significant tornadic events, here are some spectacular tornado footage. Feel free to post more spectacular or significant tornado videos.

That is one enormous gust front. Hate to be under that one as it come through. Might end up a piece of debris. (lol)

Pete,

I will try remaining on topic with little deviation from the videos that will be posted in this thread so continue all to post more videos.

In regards to this event, the winds were of the order of 160 to 170 kilometres per hour in some regions - a woman was killed in the town that we stayed at that night after we were hammered by violent winds ourselves. Sme vehicles that parked near a gravel piled realised how winds can utilise the gravel to damage your windows!

Back to the videos - I may post links to the lightning and shelf cloud associated with our view of this event.

Hi Mike,

That is a nice great coloured tornado and nice elephant trunk tornado. There is another tornado video that looks much like the Dunoon tornado with white vapour vorticies and up motion though it is much more separated from the precipitation.

Check out this tornado for close comfort

Hi,

And whilst we are on the concept of tornadoes, how about we check May 29 2004 tornadoes - now they were in some cases long lived and violent a swell as the storm in southern Kansas being a multiple tornado producer. This one goes for a while.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJvgKCTIZ1Y

And this one really shows violent rotation that is only observed when you have a serious tornado imminent! Just watch the rotation in this!

Unless I missed something, I don't think anybody's posted this in here before!

On February 16, 2008, a tornado struck the town of Tubarao in southern Brazil just south of the major city of Florianopolis, which is at about the same latitude as Brisbane. It caused some severe damage to homes and buildings, apparently probably equivalent to EF-1/EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

Nice Youtube vid of the tornado in action. Note how lightning active the supercell was.
http://www.youtube.com/v/qdCiOL7EOko

Another video of the tornado. With those subtropical green hills and farmland and if it weren't for the fact that Brazilians drive on the right side, this could've easily been a scene right out of SE QLD or NE NSW!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9POUOEVeMG0

Newsclip about the tornado. Although it's in Portuguese, I've decided to still post this, for at 00:27, you can see the damage caused by the tornado, and at 00:35, there is a condensation/debris cloud near ground level which resembles somewhat the Dunoon, NSW tornado on Oct. 26, 2007.
http://www.youtube.com/v/JzrxLpWPOSo

These three pics and two radar images below are from Tornado World (http://www.metsul.com/blog/?cod_blog=3), a Brazilian weather blog site. Note the clear slot behind the tornado and a CG in the middle pic. The radar images both appear to indicate that the parent storm was a supercell typical of what you would expect in the Southern Hemisphere.

Hi guys,

Now this is something I have been waiting a long time for. On the 15th June 1992, the Kansas region explerienced what was then the second largest outbreak of tornadoes in its history. Surprisingly, it occurred in June and what made this event unusual was that the supercells were circulating around each other if I am correct. The storms attained incredible inflow very rarely seen even by US standards and the storm structures were amazing as well. The lightning - massive! In some cases the lightning was so fierce some chasers chose to retreat somewhat.

Here are a few of the videos from the 15th June 1992 event as observed by Robert Prentice in the pre-twister days of chasing:

And of course, not sure if it has been posted yet, we have the Xenia F-5 killer tornado, Illonois. This was unsual given it was a violent tornado and lacked the condensation funnel - possibly attributing to many of the deaths.

One cannot go past the violent upper trough system that produced a high risk in the tornado alley region especially in Nebraska on the 22nd May 2004. Take a look at the way the tornado wedges out!

Who could forget this infamous footage of the April 26 1991 Andover, Kansas tornado where the reporter and film crew met a man and his two daughters under an overpass.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHBZylcxIvw

Researchers have damned the footage for the loss of many lives particularly in the May 3 1999 Moore tornado where people remember this very footage and did the same. PLEASE DO NOT STOP UNDER AN OVERPASS GIVEN THE WIND TUNNEL EFFECT INCREASES THE WIND STRENGTH AND CAN SUCK PEOPLE OUT. The design of the many overpasses are also different - in this case the overpass had extra protection. Further, despite the spectacular nature of the video, the tornadic winds in this tornado were much weaker than the Moore tornado.

Hello all,

I think I find the right thread for this:

It’s not many years ago tornadoes were unheard of in Europe.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQxw21lvCz4

May 20th a tornado/hurricane appeared in the small village of Gátér in Bács-Kiskun county (in between Kiskunfélegyhaza and Csongrád) in Hungary.

I know its not big enough and I don't really know the categories but that is def a tornado and they promise more!

Xenium,

Welcome to the forum.

I guess a tornado is a tornado and it is good that storm chasers and weather enthiasts have begun documenting tornadoes in Europe. This helps spread awareness and educate the public how to deal with the potential dangers associated with tornadoes. I am glad you have passed this link to us although I had already posted it into another thread.

That is a very good get - nice shape in that storm - and you are right: places that don't normally get tornadoes are now getting them - and stronger ones at that.

Okay here's a video for you experienced guys of such things.

Is it a false tornado?

Simply a funnel?

It's not rotating very quickly but it is def attached to the cloud base.  I'd like some definitive opinions from those in the know re this video.  I don't know wher it is but has me intrigued.  thanks.

Hi Colin,

...strong thermal...

This is definitely a vortex - dust devil.

Felt sorry for the farmer? Yes I didn't really mean to laugh:)

However, it is quite possible the heat created by the plastic itself  may have attributed to the vortex in the first place.
