Title: Tasmanian Tornado 1st August 2007
Post by: John Allen on 03 August 2007, 03:52:29 PM
Heard about this one on the ABC news, and found this followup on weatherzone. http://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/story.jsp?id=7155

Id like to open the floor as to possible causes for this feature, though i reserve my judgement for the moment until i can do a proper analysis.

Interesting - radar shows significant cells passing over Marrawah at 4pm and again at 10pm on the 1st. I gather the report of 'last night' means 10pm is the likely time of event.

The Melbourne and Hobart soundings both have plenty of speed shear, with Melb indicating some slight turning.

That speed shear is incredible!  I'm not familiar with Tas weather but they do get very strong low pressure fronts passing them regularly- I for one would certainly like to keep this thread going to get as much info as possible..once i get some info myself I'll have questions.
