A tornadic supercell has been raging across central Minnesota this evening, prompting tornado warnings for the Minneapolis Metro area; at least one tornado has been confirmed just west of Minneapolis near the city of Mound! The storm is currently just to the northeast of the metro, moving due east toward the Wisconsin border. This storm formed in a very explosive environment and for a good while it looked as though this evening was going to be another "cap bust," meaning the cap was too strong to allow thunderstorm development, but this storm was able to break through and is definitely taking advantage of the available ingredients (extreme instability and strong shear). A tornado watch has also been issued for east-central Minnesota into western Wisconsin.
