Title: Sydney Storms Sunday 15th April 2007
Post by: Dave Nelson on 16 April 2007, 02:36:44 PM
Hi Gang,

Several reasonable cells passed over Sydney today, mid - late afternoon.  LI's ~ -2  and CAPE ~ 1000
Some good CC's and a small number of CG's were seen.  one cell passed directly over me in
West Ryde  one other to the nth  and 2 others to the south of me.

Cell 1 ... passed just to my south, nice base visible (View West)

Cell 2 ... passed right overhead  really nice updraught (View West)

Cell 2 ... another view

Cell 3 ... Passed over southern suburbs (View South)

Tail end of cell 2 well east of me, still strong updraught producing Pilus (View East)

Hi Dave,
Did you manage any shots of the Crawlers or CG's at all? The turbulent base and updraft features would've made for some great composure in the shots!

Kindest regards,
(coughs from the dry, dusty conditions) :)
Shauno.

Keeping on topic in regards to the storms, can you Dave post more information about them - what the storms produced rain, strong winds, hail etc? I would not mind being kept up to date given I am in the United States at this time.

Regards,

Jimmy Deguara

Hi Shaun,
none of those nice fanning out anvil crawlers were seen from my location.
it is worthy to note that this storm system increased in activity as it crossed over the nthrn beaches
area and went offshore.  A workmate that lives in the Dee Why area commented on how active the storm
was as it passed over.
I also noted from home that I could still see the clouds being lit up well after 2100EST, several hours after
it passed over home.   I almost went driving to Macquarie shopping centre roof carpark to take some pix.

To answer your questions Jimmy .... just several brief periods ( really brief!  ~5-10 mins at a time) of mod-heavy
rain here in Ryde. I havent heard of any hail reports, not even by the nthrn beaches workmate.  No significant wind
to report either.
