Title: Adelaide Hailstorms 29th Dec 2006

I am currently on holiday in Adelaide and have had an excellent evening photographing thunderstorm cloud structure and sunset colours. There has even been some small hail (pea size) from one of the storms about an hour ago. Most of the lightning has been CC, however there has also been the odd CG around  :)

Thanks Matt. Glad you are enjoying yourself:)

It seems that there is ample moisture coming across as well as unusually cold upper pools of air allowing for widespread thunderstorm conditions.

Were the storms higher based?

The storms were definately high based with dewpoints struggling to reach double digits. None the less the cloud structure was nice and I got some great sunset and rainbow photos. I will see if I can post a couple of the best ones on here later.

After I posted last night the storms continued on until around 1am which made sleeping very difficult  ;D There was a number of deep earth shaking rumbles and a period of heavy rain which sounded great on the tin roof  :) Definately the most sustained period of storms I have encountered for a long while (5-6 hours of one storm after the other  :o )
