STORM WARNING FOR NORTH EASTERN AREA

SITUATION
At 1800 UTC a Tropical Low 998 hPa was centred within 20 nautical miles of
10.4 S 157.0 E and almost stationary.
The low is likely to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 6 to
12 hours and move towards the west.
AREA AFFECTED
Within 60 nautical miles of the centre.
FORECAST
Clockwise winds increasing to a maximum 40 knots in the next 6 to 12 hours, and
to 50 knots within the next 24 hours.

                        Central pressure 992 hPa.

SITUATION
At 0000 UTC a Tropical Cyclone Pierre, central pressure 995 hPa was centred
within 20 nautical miles of
10.7 S 156.6 E and moving west at 3 knots.
The cyclone is expected to continue to move west over the next few days.  
AREA AFFECTED
Within 100 nautical miles of the centre.
FORECAST
Clockwise winds to a maximum of 40 knots increasing to 55 knots within the next
24 hours.

At 180000 UTC Tropical Cyclone Pierre 992 hPa was centred within 30 nautical
miles of 11.1 S 154.0 E moving west at 6 knots. A low pressure system with a 
central pressure of 1002 hPa was located near 7.5 S 152.5E and was near
stationary.
AREA AFFECTED
Within 100 nautical miles of the centre of tropical cyclone Pierre and within 60
nautical miles of the Low in the northern semicircle.
FORECAST
Clockwise winds 34/40 knots around Pierre and SW to NW winds to 35 knots north
of the low.
Maximum winds within 30 nautical miles of the centre of Pierre increasing to 50
knots in the next 12 hours, and to 60 knots within 24 hours.

miles of 10.5 S 153.5 E moving west at 6 knots. A low pressure system with a
central pressure of 1002 hPa was located near 7.5 S 152.5E and was near
stationary.
AREA AFFECTED
Within 80 nautical miles of the centre of Cyclone Pierre and within 60 nautical
miles in the northern semicircle of the Low.
FORECAST
Clockwise winds 34/40 knots around Pierre and SW to NW winds to 35 knots north
of the low.
Maximum winds within 30 nautical miles of the centre of Cyclone Pierre
increasing to 40 knots in the next 12 hours.

Clockwise winds 25/35 knots around Pierre. System is expected to gradually
weaken over the next 12 hours.

Winds are no longer expected to exceed 33 knots. The system is expected now to
move onto the New Guinea mainland and weaken.
