Here in Ballarat: Alfredton, I received 13.5mm of rain for July which is well below par largest fall was 3mm which was on the 1st of July and there was 14 days of percipitation, and most of the rainfall I got were not from Coldfronts or rain bands but from drizzle, Cjs'n'Cbs because of upper lows. Currently in Ballarat it is cold with a gusty SSW wind with showers zooming across with the wind, perhaps some cold air Cbs this avo with tiny hail. Here is Brisbane at this time of year the humidity is low, pollution almost non-existent due to westerly flows with an atmosphere rather thinner than HK, and with usually no cloud at night. So we get beautiful skys with good still viewing. Mars is particularly dominant atm. Hi all,

I had a look at the 12:00 obseravations for the AWS's in NSW. I noticed that there had been a sharp drop in temperatures and DP in the last few hours across Southern Tablelands. At Cooma the temperature dropped from 6.5° at 10:00 to 1.0° at 11:00. The temperature rose slightly again to 3.2°. There has been a total of 4.6 mm of rain since 9am. With temps as low as they it makes me wonder how much of that 4.6 mm fall as snow or sleet.

It appears as though the Snowies are copping snow today with a current temperature of around -4° at Thredbo AWS and -1° at Cabramurra. Rainfall totals have been 4.0 mm and 6.4 mm respectively at these locations since 9am.

It is a real pain in the ass. Just please make sure you have some updated virus software (i.e Norton, etc) running when opening your attachments/emails. Also try to avoid using Outlook to view emails as the Sircam worm was developed to target Microsoft applications and utilises the gaping holes in the program code of Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Explorer to its advantage (A big drawback for Microsoft's user friendliness) I have an exe file that the uni sent me and I can send to anyone who has been infected with the virus to delete it from your system in case your virus software won't do it. Please email me privately and I will send it out to you along with instructions. The virus will continue to effect your system/email until it is deleted/removed. I learnt that the hard way. For the two-month period: Melbourne max 15.2 (equal 4th; record 15.5 in 1957) min 8.8 (highest on record; previously 8.7, 1991) mean 12.0 (highest on record; previously 11.9, 1991) Sydney max 18.7 (2nd; highest 18.8, 1921) min 9.9 (nothing too exceptional) mean 14.3 (2nd; highest 14.5, 1988) In addition, Hobart did not have any sub-10 degree days in July (although it did get one yesterday!). This is only the second such July (after 1930). Regional General Manager Stuart Liddell said local repair crews responded to four times the usual weekend workload, with the worst affected area being the coastal strip from Nambucca Heads to Karuah. Eleven thousand customers were without power at one time or another during last Friday, Saturday and Sunday as a result of damage caused by the freak winds, which reached up to 74km/h on Saturday night. "The main problems included trees being uprooted and thrown into powerlines, wires being blown together, objects such as tarps and roofing being propelled into the powerlines and the high winds causing cross arms to break," Mr Liddell said. "Over the three days, we had twice the usual number of staff manning the phones and dispatching repair jobs to ensure customers were kept up-to-date and the restoration process ran smoothly. "My congratulations go to the field staff who battled with the extreme weather to ensure power was restored as quickly as possible. They did a great job. "On behalf of all Country Energy staff I would also like to thank customers for their patience and understanding ##################################################################################### This message is intended for the addressee named and may contain confidential information. The word Baroclinic 'Leaf'' is a descriptive attempt at a visual sense of observation (from sat pics), on some occasions looking not unlike a leaf on the ground this type of medium to large scale mainly mid and upper level cloud is often associated with impending cyclogenisis (not necessary nearby). A marked increase in the mid and upper flow is linked to a strengthening of the jet stream,on occasions such cloud bands can extend for thousands of kilometres and can produce widespread areas of rain.A good deal of precipitation over the interior of Australia is associated with strong baroclinic situations. You could write an encyclopaedia on this subject if you were that way inclined, the development of a Baroclinic leaf cloud (sometimes not looking like a leaf at all) is a good forecasting tool for impending low pressure development....lots more! regards Clyve Herbert. ----- Original Message ----- From: John Gaul To: Sent: Friday, August 03, 2001 10:52 PM Subject: aus-wx: baroclinic leaf > I have always wondered why a developing baroclonical situation is refered > to as a "Baroclonic Leaf" ? > Why the word "Leaf" > Does anyone know the origin of this > > > > JohnGaul > NZ Thunderstorm Society > > +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ > To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com > with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your > message. > -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ From: "Andrew" To: Subject: Re: aus-wx: Better weather for southeast Aus/Tasmania Date: Sat, 4 Aug 2001 18:16:16 +1000 X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2615.200 X-OriginalArrivalTime: 04 Aug 2001 08:18:34.0398 (UTC) FILETIME=[0DCCE3E0:01C11CBE] Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi all, Speaking of the coming spring, I spent this afternoon fishing up at Lake Eildon (and for those fisho's out there is was dead quiet) and managed to score an awesome suntan (despite the temperature not getting above 13C). Very thick in some areas with some rain visible off the coast, obviously very isolated though. A bit windy too which is good for a change. Interesting to note that BOM here has gone as far to lable the air just to the west as unstable which is good, they don't often metion unstable air masses in their notes especially note when they are from the north in WINTER! Anyone know how unstable the air is? Not heaps of moisture around so that is always a problem but it would be good if we could get at least one heavy shower, but more likely just a trace of rain. Tmorrow looks ok with the second front in the morning, interesting to see if the showers hang around until the Showdown starts at fotty park. I remember a few very wet showdowns a few years ago. It's just started to rain a bit with one or two heavy drops. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ From: "Michael Thompson" To: Subject: aus-wx: Pictures of Lake George - dry !! I'm guessing the absence of emails from Adelaideians must mean they're out checking out the action. Or judging by SG's last email, perhaps the emails have been delayed somewhere in the system.
