Warm July temperatures

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Yes, warm alright – 25.5 here yesterday but not record territory for the Northern Rivers – just nice tourist weather! Still nice here this morning but the wind change is not far away. May see some coastal showers tonight and into Saturday.

I notice Harley posted the temps for Sydney on the forum for the 22nd July:

Badgerys Creek – 25.4C Max and 5.3C Min.
Bankstown – 24.6C Max and 8.4C Min.
Parramatta – 24.6C Max and 12.9C Min.
Penrith – 26.7C Max and 6.5C Min.
Prospect – 24.8C Max and 11.5C Min.
Sydney – 24.7C Max and 11.2C Min.
Terrey Hills – 23C Max and 14C Min.

This was the warmest day so far this winter for Sydney and the warmest July day for many years. The cool change that arrived late afternoon brought an end to this warm spell including some light shower activity.

Storm Storms Funnel Cloud – Severe storms and hail hit Singleton and Central Tablelands February 21 2009 Severe weather

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Michael,

developing rotation swirl almost directly overhead

Severe storms were intercepted yesterday with storms rapidly developing near Lithgow initially and also east of Mudgee a little later. There were likely two supercells out of this region. We chased the Lithgow region hoping to get onto the cells near Rhylstone though they were developing too quickly and there were also the cells near Lithgow. So we had to contend with the cell near Capertee.

Here is a nice image of a base circulation and dimple of a funnel almost overhead. This coincided with a wind change in the near storm environmental boundary.funnel cloud in the form of a dimple almost overhead whilst near Wallerawang - Lithgow region
