Dry weather continues over NSW and QLD

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Not much to report in the rainfall stakes for Northeast NSW of late, and it’s much the same story for most of NSW and Queensland. Just 15mm here for September with less than 1mm the previous month and a dry July too. A big turn-around from 1350mm in the first half of the year.

The dust storm last week was pretty amazing and to get a second dose just 3 days later was extraordinary. The second storm hit NE NSW from mid afternoon Saturday 26th Sep and persisted the following day.

Hoping the patterns will change and some rain comes soon. Will be buying water for the household tanks again next week – seems such a waste of money after so much rain earlier in the year.

Northeast NSW / Southeast Queensland Rain and Floods

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Hi Jimmy, An interesting aspect of the developing rain event is that GFS was forecasting this well over a week ago. It’s not often the charts remain so consistent. A high ridging NE into the northern Tasman Sea is a perfect situation to cradle a coastal low for a couple of days. Brisbane could do with some heavy falls though I suspect the worst of the flooding potential will again effect the Bellinger River.

The latest GFS rainfall chart is attached. Some parts of the Tweed Valley and SE QLD have had over 100mm of rain already.
