North Coast and Lismore flooding

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Yes – certainly the most widespread flooding event in quite some time. About an 800km stretch of East Coast was affected. In some of the pics you will see caravans caught in the flood waters – this is in the most flood prone part of Lismore but there is some ongoing argument about why the residents were not evacuated in time.

For those interested in all the floods which have hit Lismore – which is probably the most flood-prone city in the country – have a look at this report:

Jimmy is a daddy!

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Hi Jimmy and family – how has the first week been as a dad? Hope you are managing to get some rest:) Alison is keen to see some more photos of Jimelle.

Weather has gone into a boring stagnant pattern with a HIGH over the Bight barely moving. The cold air aloft and associated instability has produced some ongoing showers on the eastern fringe with coastal storms observed most days in the past week or so (though mostly quite distant out in the East Coast Current). Last weekend managed to produce quite a number of waterspouts.

I’ve updated the Australian tornadoes page with some recent events including the waterspouts:
