Hot air balloon lands in fog

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Hot air balloons often pass along the Eltham Valley in front our place but in nine years of living here they have only landed close by twice. This one came out of the northwest in a very light airstream – hence the fog!

The support crew were quickly in place on my neighbour’s place to pack up the balloon.

Fine weather persists with barely any rain for over 3 weeks here. The week ahead looks dry too with low to mid 20 temps.

On Saturday was in Brisbane for an ASWA meeting. Was a great day with plenty of 2008/09 season photos and footage to enjoy.

Northeast NSW / Southeast Queensland Rain and Floods

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Hi Jimmy, An interesting aspect of the developing rain event is that GFS was forecasting this well over a week ago. It’s not often the charts remain so consistent. A high ridging NE into the northern Tasman Sea is a perfect situation to cradle a coastal low for a couple of days. Brisbane could do with some heavy falls though I suspect the worst of the flooding potential will again effect the Bellinger River.

The latest GFS rainfall chart is attached. Some parts of the Tweed Valley and SE QLD have had over 100mm of rain already.

Hailstorms hailstorm Brisbane wild hail video footage storms November 16 2008

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Michael, Some major storms developed near Brisbane today with incredible structure. Definitely a supercell tending to a squall line later near Cabulture. The earlier cells seemed to have some of the larger hail although there was a warning for very large hail north of Brisbane. Lots of insurance claims I can tell you from all the damage! YouTube Preview Image This follows the storm on the 15th November in the lower Hunter near Cessnock and Maitland which may have had an elevated mesocyclone though looked spectacular all the same.
