Severe weather expected today across the Corn Belt

A shortwave trough will dig into the northern Plains and upper Mississippi River Valley this evening, increasing the liklihood for severe weather from Minnesota extending into northern Kansas. The 18z NAM shows that the strongest shear will be in place just east of the areas of greatest instability, so this will limit the "outbreak" potential, but all modes of severe weather will be possible, including supercells, before the (expected) eventual evolution into an MCS later in the evening over the northern Missouri vicinity.
