Title: SA Severe Storms Nov 6
Post by: Richary on 07 November 2008, 04:01:57 PM
I know we don't seem to have any local reporters there, but worth recording for history. I know there were severe storm warnings for parts of SA today.

This from the Adelaide Advertiser website.

FREAK storm has swept through Port Augusta tonight uprooting five trees, bringing down power lines and blowing the roof of a house.
The storm hit the centre of town at about 7pm and lasted only a few minutes.

It has now passed the town but emergency services said they were flooded with calls from town residents.

A spokesman said he was awaiting more information from emergency workers in Pt Augusta.

The storm front passing through SA is also expected to affect Ceduna, Wudinna, Marla, Coober Pedy, Oodnadatta and Leigh Creek.

Around 7:10 Porta Gutta as we used to call it recorded wind gusts on 75 kph, so this may have been a localised event.

A nasty storm has flared up near Woomera. Wouldn't be surprised if there is some large hail with it.

Edit: Just sat outside (in the northern suburbs of Adelaide). Lots of impressive lightning around (unfortunately I now have about 5000 mosquito bites  to show for it as well).
