Tornadoes possible today on the High Plains; severe weather outbreak likely tomorrow!

(http://www.tornadovideos.net/images/stories/2010/june_2010/6.16.10.validww.png)Tornado watches are currently in effect over an area extending from  southeast Montana and western South Dakota all the way to northeastern Colorado  and western Nebraska. Discrete supercells have fired in an environment favorable  for rotating updrafts and are likely to persist into the late evening; storms on  the southern end of the watch area may congeal into a mesoscale convective  system over western Nebraska, creating a threat for flooding and damaging winds.

The larger weather story for this week will be the severe weather potential for  tomorrow, as an extremely dynamic storm system will eject out of the Rockies and  rotate across the northern Plains late this evening and into the upper Missouri  and Mississippi River Valley by early tomorrow. Immense wind shear (http://www.twisterdata.com) i (http://www.twisterdata.com)s  anticipated over an area of high instability from the eastern Dakotas and  western Minnesota south into Iowa and Nebraska and even northeast Kansas.  Intense thunderstorms are expected to develop early in the day on the western  side of the risk area and increase in coverage throughout the day. Given the  dynamics, strong tornadoes are a possibility tomorrow, so residents of these  areas should pay close attention to weather statements and changing conditions.  Chasers are likely to be out in force tomorrow -- especially the constituency  from Minnesota -- and will be streaming this event on the Live  (http://chase.tornadovideos.net/pages/full_screen)page throughout  the day.
