Numerous chasers are in the field streaming live video of the severe weather unfolding this evening across the central and northern Plains. http://www.tornadovideos.net/live (http://www.tornadovideos.net/live)

A tornado watch has been issued for an area stretching from extreme southwest Iowa into central Kansas, while another weather watch appears imminent for northern IA and southern Minnesota.

This is the first in what is likely to be at least 3 straight days of severe weather, with tomorrow and Saturday looking a bit ominous for widespread events, from Minnesota and Wisconsin all the way to the Gulf coast. Plenty of shear will be in place over the next few days, but there is a question as to whether enough instability will materialize for a more major outbreak-type event. This is definitely something residents of the Mississippi River Valley area will want to keep a close eye on, especially in light of last weekend's tragic tornadic events in the Mid South, as some of those same areas will see a heightened severe weather threat again this weekend.
