Tornado watches have been issued for parts of North and South Carolina this  afternoon, and multiple law-enforcement reports of tornadoes have been coming in  from the western parts of those states. A large tornado was reported near High  Point, NC, prompting a tornado emergency, and substantial damage and some  injuries have been reported as well. These storms are training somewhat and  moving to the northeast at ~ 45 MPH. At this time (7:32 PM) a very convincing  couplet is just to the west of Yanceyville, NC; there is probably a large  tornado occurring with this storm right now! People in the Carolinas into southern Virginia should remain especially alert into the overnight, as night time tornadoes can be especially dangerous. Now is a great time for everyone to put fresh batteries in your NOAA weather radios as severe weather season is here for sure!
