Plains chase season kicks off today

A fairly organized yet compact storm system will move into western Kansas and Nebraska later this afternoon, bringing the chance for thunderstorms and possibly some funnels or a tornado to the Plains for the first time this year. Instability will be limited and dependent on daytime heating; however, more than adequate shear will be in place, so any storms that do form will have the potential to rotate.
