Hi Con

Just wondering how you caught those daytime strikes near Parra (http://www.australiasevereweather.com/forum/australian-severe-storms-significant-weather-events-and-storm-chasing/showers-storms-nsw-qld-10-15th-november/). HD videocam and just grab the stills?

If I had used that technique I would have had a few nice ones from yesterday, but they weren't strobing enough to have any success with the DSLR except if it had been blind luck.

Hello Richary,
I use a lightning trigger attached to the camera's flash shoe plate for day shots or when I just want to enjoy the action without worrying about having my hand glued to the cable release and sharp reflexes.  It's still a hit or miss affair though, otherwise I stop down to f/22 and put it on burst mode during the  most active part of the storm. HD vidcam would be nice though, Cheers, Con.

Have wondered about a lightning trigger - how easy is it to build or can you buy them?

Some models of the Canon people have hacked the firmware so it triggers automatically on the change of light intensity, but not for the 1000D unluckily.
