Hi,

After a long day chasing with storms during the morning then noon and afternoon period, some very severe cells developed quite rapidly. However, in most cases they were not very long lived. The most impressive cell I was able to get up close and personal was the following:

This was one awesome sculptured classic supercell! I scored more dents - the second time this season from hail up to about golf ball size.

The first cell though:

Some nice front anvil mammatus today:

Hi Jimmy,

What a catch!  After our discussion when you returned I thought it was a good storm. Looking at the photos, it was more impressive than your description. From the sound of it, yesterday was a very difficult day to chase. Looking forward to the video.

Regards,

Geoff

Geoff,

Didn't want to give too much away:)

David Croan notices an RFD notch which being so watchful of what the storm was doing is interesting now that it has been noticed.

Hi Jimmy,

Nice pics mate. Where were they taken?  and did you get a view without those trees? :)

Hi Brad,

This storm was observed just south of Taree - you would have gone past its path. Don't remind me of those trees...

The narrow V-shaped spacing on the right is an RFD notch. This is where the RFD  rear-flank downdraft cuts down from the rear. If anyone looks closely through the vault - the arch cavity space on the left, you can see a thin veil of precipitation. This is the hook region showing as a hook echo on radar!

A small (thin) beaver tail can also be observed on the left of the latter photographs.

These are nowhere near as good as yours Jimmy but for anyone whose interested in what it looked like around my place Ive got a link to a 6MB slideshow with a bit of timelapse. It's my first timelapse with the eos but I can see real potential for the future.

Regards Jeff.

Hi Jeff,

Your timelapse using photos certainly worked out very well :) It would be great to catch a storm from birth to death using that technique.

HI Jeff,

Nice! Great timelapse. Interesting to see the shear working on the convection. Did you say it split from another? It looks to be wanting to act like a right mover.

I have timelapsed the tripoded section of the supercell. What I see on the timelapse is clear rotation and but it is interesting that a shelf cloud forms in the lower part. David and I believe it is a RFD slot as well. Wierd trying to decipher the whole storm motion.

The timelapse of the storm is sped up 20 times
