Title: Perth tornado 20/05/2011
Post by: Colin Maitland on 22 May 2011, 02:01:10 AM
There are reports that a tornado has hit the suburb of Canning Vale, Perth just after 8:00am on Friday. It is said to have uprooted trees, ripped tiles from roofs and flattened fences.

Be interesting to see what information, photos and videos are released through out the day to confirm this.

Yes, hopefully some pics of the actual tornado given it was daylight. There's a few articles about the damage.

Here's the radar loop which shows the line of activity passing through just after 0000 UTC on 20th May

128km Radar Loop for Perth (Serpentine), 21:00 19/05/2011 to 03:00 20/05/2011 UTC

So this sounding went up *just before* the tornado occurred.

There is a clip on you tube of the damage, looks to be F0-F1 range.  I'm interested in Perth cool season tornadoes as they are similar to what we get in the west and N of NZ.

This is the you tube of the ABC news that nzstorms may have been referring to,
