Tornado hits Mapleton, IA!
(http://www.tornadovideos.net/images/stories/2011/april_2011/4.9.11.reflectivity.mapleton.png)(http://www.tornadovideos.net/images/stories/2011/april_2011/4.9.11.srv.mapleton.png)Reports are still coming in, but an apparently large, destructive tornado has hit the town of Mapleton, Iowa this evening. Several storm chasers were streaming this tornado live (http://chase.tornadovideos.net/pages/full_screen), and debris could be seen flying through the air. Dick McGowan reports that major structural damage has occurred. Above are radar images taken as the storm moved over town -- velocity was maxing out at 161 kts of shear at the time, so this was very likely a strong to violent tornado. This extremely dangerous storm could still be producing a tornado as it moves east of Mapleton at 25 MPH. A tornado watch (http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/watch/ww0116.html)remains in effect until 1:00 AM for portions of eastern NE and the northwestern half of Iowa, and residents in these areas should keep their weather radio nearby and monitor the NWS and local media for warnings! - Tomorrow looks like a potential high risk for eastern IA, northern IL and much of Wisconsin!

Numerous tornadoes hitting Iowa this evening!
(http://www.tornadovideos.net/images/stories/2011/april_2011/img_12763w.stanga.jpg)(http://www.tornadovideos.net/images/stories/2011/april_2011/img_1274small_stanga.jpg)(http://www.tornadovideos.net/images/stories/2011/april_2011/img_1270small_stanga.jpg)Included here are photos of some of the tornadoes that have occurred in western and northern Iowa this evening, taken by TVN Live streamer Michael Stanga. (http://www.thewxpage.com) There have been multiple reports of mile+ wide wedge tornadoes, and a number of instances where several tornadoes have been occurring at the same time, all of which have been coming in after dark -- this after the town of Mapleton evidently took a direct hit at around 7:30 PM local time. All of this makes for an especially dangerous situation, and there have already been reports of injuries! This system (http://www.twisterdata.com)will continue to strengthen and move east overnight, and will impact the Great Lakes region with the greatest threat of severe weather. Stay tuned, as we expect to have a number of videos up within the next few hours.

Severe weather outbreak continues today!
(http://www.tornadovideos.net/images/stories/2011/april_2011/4.9.11.twins.png)(http://www.tornadovideos.net/images/stories/2011/april_2011/4.9.11.willcampbell-mikelachendro.png)Portions of eastern Iowa, Minnesota into northern Illinois and Wisconsin are bracing for what will be Day-2 of a severe weather outbreak, which began last evening over western Iowa as numerous damaging tornadoes occurred over the northwestern portion of the state. The upper Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes region is under the greatest threat this afternoon into the evening, as extreme wind shear will be in place along with moderate instability. Thunderstorms that initiate this afternoon are likely to be supercellular, and will be capable of strong to violent tornadoes and extremely large hail. This is a serious weather situation, and is a little early in the year for severe weather this area, so those in the affected areas are urged to review severe weather safety information and keep their NOAA weather radio handy. -- Click READ MORE for additional information and video from yesterday-- *LIVE VIDEO HERE* (http://chase.tornadovideos.net/pages/full_screen)
