FREENEWS EXCLUSIVEThe Rose Bay Police Highway Patrol have unleashed a new weapon in their array of on-board technology. SGT Gibbs was accompanied by the rest of his Highway Patrol team to test the newly installed ANPR. (Mobile Automatic Number Plate Recognition).Seven trial units were installed state wide for three months in September 2009. On the 23rd February 2011, the Rose Bay local area command had finally received their unit for permanent use.Due to its high cost, only one unit has been allocated to the local command, however this device works in a highly efficient way.The ANPR has 3 infrared cameras, one directed to the right front, one to the left front, and finally, one to the immediate left. The system is operated by a computer and images captured are processed by the Optical Character Recognition software. Two scans can be done simultaneously, using multiple cameras.
