Title: NSW, VIC, SA Storms 26 November 2010
Post by: nmoir on 27 November 2010, 02:48:33 PM
I positioned myself around Taralga , looking for the boundary which proved to stay east of me . It popped up some almost stationary storms which took on moisture from very low and had some nice updrafts , Jimmy D had a look at a cell at Mittagong while i came in from the west at a nice cell hovering over Marulan , nth of Goulburn NSW. They probably knocked a few koalas out of the trees as the dropped most of the heavy rain or hail into the Bungonia state forest , east of the HWY
all pics are from the west nth west of the storms.

I knocked off from at at 2:30pm,grabbed my cameras and immediately chased to the Nerriga area. Unfortunately the best action occured as I was lefe home. As a result I missed out by 30-40minutes and had to settle for CGs in the storms decaying stage. At one stage a storm decided to track N/NE,most likely riding along a weak outflow boundary. I couldn't see any distant features, maybe a touch of greenage. At the end of the day it was only a pulse storm, and most likely only made torrential rain and maybe some small hail. Thankfully the lightning behaviour was rather nice with multiple staccato strikes at times.

I've seen some great storms hit Nerriga in recent years, and its great to finally take advantage of the fully sealed stretch from Nowra to Nerriga(a comfortable 50minute drive)  Unfortunately the views are terrible, though filmable if desperate. It opens up near Nerriga but only for a couple of kilometres.

I have heard reports today of golf ball size hail in the Barossa Valley (near Adelaide) and some of the Melbourne storms looked pretty heavy on radar this afternoon. So hopefully we will get some more reports in.

According to radar some storms to the west and south of Sydney today, hopefully the forecasts are right and they will get to us by Sunday.

Yeah, that SA one had a mention in the warning:

Golf-ball sized hail and flash flooding were reported near Eudunda earlier this afternoon.

Looks like a split before the right mover passed over Eudunda
