Title: Storms & and possible rain event SE Aust : 18-19 August 2010
Post by: Antonio (stormboy) on 18 August 2010, 03:01:41 PM
there could be possibility for some storms in norther nsw come Thursday.

Cloud increasing, with patchy rain developing. Chance of thunderstorms out to sea. Moderate north to northwesterly winds tending fresh west to northwesterly in the afternoon.

the BSCH CAPE shows nothing impressive at all but with some warm temperatures possible we might just see some lightning offshore.

A number of warnings are current for parts of SA, VIC and NSW this afternoon and evening. Some rather strong shear so not surprised to see wind and hail in the thunderstorm warnings. Cells are certainly moving along - wonder if we'll get any damage reports.

Storm dumps hail on Wimmera Mallee
Thursday August 19, 2010 - 07:19 EST
Storms have dumped large hail and heavy rain on parts of the Wimmera Mallee yesterday afternoon, but appear to have caused little damage.

Golf-ball-sized hail was reported around Kerang and Cohuna and in the Wimmera large hailstones were reported at Netherby as severe thunderstorms moved across north-west Victoria.

Wind gusted at 70 kilometres an hour around Swan Hill and in parts of the Wimmera, and flash flooding was reported at Warracknabeal.

But the State Emergency Service says it received 14 callouts in Warracknabeal, mostly for flash flooding and fallen trees.

Some great storms came flying through here last night.
Really strong winds, some pretty big gum tree limbs down near the house but I'm sure there will be more damage around the place.

12mm of rain in the guage this morning.
Those storms we really moving along fast so we were probably lucky to get that.
No hail here.
I have read golf ball sized hail has been reported near Kerang and Cohuna!

It might actually be a decent year for the crops this year if we can get some of that elusive Spring time rain.
Decent Spring rain has not made an appearance around here for eight years so it will be most welcome to visit!
