Title: Hurricane Katrina assessment report
Post by: Mike on 31 July 2007, 05:31:53 AM
Having a particular interest in Katrina I found this final assessment report by the powers that be in the U.S.  It's 92 pages long but I think it would be a great resource for future hurricane events for us to use and refer back to.  The report has absolutely everything in from satpics, aerial photography before and after and just a heap of information and opinions.  Anyone with any interest in hurricanes and their effects should take a look and keep a copy for themselves.  Go to http://www.asce.org/files/pdf/ERPreport.pdf

I was reviewing the net since it's two years on since Hurricane Katrina and foundthis which shows animated graphic which is quite interesting.  It shows levies, surges, water flow etc. You can click on the side toolbar to show or hide any of the things optioned. http://www.time.com/time/2007/neworleansmap/

There are some interesting articles around also on the CNN website which report that katrina was more than likely a CAT2-3 storm when she hit New Orleans, but the finger of blame pointing to the US Army engineers who built those levies which actually made things worse!  Good reading for anyone interested.
