Certainly not wrong about the wind!! It has been extreme here overnight (in Mooroolbark) - I did see on BoM that Mt William in VIC recorded a gust of 133kph.
There hasn't been much rain, but certainly a bit of wind damage around the place, as the article stated. Laverton is a tall tree barren place on the western side of the Port Phillip Bay region, so would end up suffering greater with galeforce winds than most other places.
Road weather alerts have also been issued in my area, with the Dandenong Ranges area expecting a buffeting of gusts above 120kph before moderating later today.
