Title: Help in Reducing Size of Photographs

Hi Jimmy

This is an amazing site which I found through www.snopes.com - congratulations.

My question is, how do I go about reducing the size of my photographs in My Pictures to upload to your gallery?
I know this is probably a very basic thing, but I don't know how and I have some amazing photo's I'd love to share here.

Thanks for the comments and hope you continue to enjoy.

With Digital Cameras come CD's that have software that allow editing of photographs. The software programs can help reduce both the size in kilobytes and the dimensions to a more acceptable level. We tend to have jpeg compression of about 85% and the dimensions 900 pixels x 600 pixels on this Australian Severe Weather website.

Some of the more common software are Adobe photoshop, Paintshop Pro, and of coruse there many software programs online such as XNview and Irfanview that are free and allow conversions. Please never overwrite what you have as an oroginal - make a copy of that file and store away and experiment with a copy of that.

Thank you - I have reduced two photos (a rainbow and one I call Morning Mist) and will try to upload now.

I've also heard of Photobucket - you can go online and download for free and it gives you the tools much the same as the more expensive off-the-shlef items.  Have not had any complaints with the Photobucket download to date.  Might be worth a look.
