Some nice images provided over a lined of severe storms awesome alignment and also very large cells with overshooting tops

Hi Jimmy

The area east of a line from Swaziland down to Lesotho looks interesting today -- GFS calculates CAPE ato 3000J/kg this afternoon and around 2000 for the following few days. It appears that the main range runs parallel to the coast (NE-SW) and there is a general increase in elevation peaking at over 1500 metres some 150-200km inland. Then again, the big storm on the satpic looks to be further north and west somewhere on the elevated terrain well to the north of Pretoria. Also, the delta 500-700 is 26C over the elevated terrain. No wonder there are some impressive storms reported from this region -- imagine uplsope advecting moisture into that!

This area certainly looks like a promising place to chase storms over what we are putting up with around here.

I could not see the tornado in the picture - looked like high based precipitation.

I agree Jimmy - at first i thought, hmmm might be rain-wrapped, but the base does not really look organised -- just high-based with precip. I posted it more for a look at the landscape in the general area and also the fact that there was someone running tours there and who might have local knowledge. My laptop power cord is busted and all my current work is trapped there....have time on my hands today ;)
