Hi,

I received a phone call with urgency from David about possible lightning to his west. He wasn't dreaming either. It was re-emphasised once again by my sister arriving home. One look across from the balcony and a cloud to ground lightning got me across the road quick smart. Well here are the spoils of the evening:













The fence was to high for the tripod used for the camera so I had to hold very steady camera suspended on the fence.

Sorry John, I did have a tripod but I may as well not have as it was suspended on the fence and I had to hold it tight against the fence. It could not reach the ground proprely so I had to lean it over against the fence and hold steady for 20 seconds:)

Hi Jimmy,

I take it by the sun set in the background that the photos were taken between 7:30 to 8pm?
There were some growls of thunder and some drizzle when I got home to Hornsby at about 5pm yesterday. I immediately got onto the radar but all the cells were weakening at that time. It looks like this one picked up later! Good shots considering the challenging position of the camera.

Of course you have observed storms from the same spot in the past - not bad to observe storms but a better tripod is on order.

Nice catch Jimmy, but exposure at only 2 seconds? Wow, that storm surely was active then. (Sorry make that 20seconds - thanks for alerting me to it Andrej (Jimmy Deguara))

When I was shooting my last lightnings, it was a must for 30 seconds exposure, add to that I had no tripod at the time (camera was on the roof of my car, but i had to hold it myself because of the vertical angle) and you can imagine the result. Great photos. To date, I have still not taken a single photo of a cloud. I was not aware of any storm occurring Friday night. I was aware of what was coming across until 6 pm but I was hosting at Mens Conference and no one told me that a storm occurred. Still, an excellent result for you.

Looks like it was high based and putting out cloud to ground lightning.

I know it's a late reply but loved the CG action!  How far away was the storm from you and the fence? Nice colours in the background!

Actually I cannot remember the distance myself but let's say ti was 10 to 15km minimum in my opinion.
