VIC / NSW Storms : 23 - 24 June 2009   on: 23 June 2009, 10:56:30 AM

Hi all,

Preparing myself and my digital camera for a wild day here in eastern Melbourne. Forecast is for isolated afternoon storms, and going by the current skyline to the west, it is building up to be that way.

I'm not good with all the tech jargon about the storms and stuff, I tend to go more by sight and visuals, so hopefully for what I've seen so far, storms may be evident here from about 2pm onwards.

Good luck Big Pete, hope you get some great photos. We have afternoon isolated storms and showers forecast here for this afternoon and evening. It's starting to get darker brewing to our west so my fingers are crossed!

Best of luck with the chase guys!
Seems to be fairly active in the southern NSW regions. Take care out there and bag a few rippers! :D

Kindest regards,
Shauno

Been some rain around, but very disappointing in the storm department - here are some pics from today:

(the first 5 pics are from Chirnside Park VIC, and the last is from home in Mooroolbark VIC)

Well we were very lucky last night, the storms developing just to our north west and coming through. The lightning was amazing, constant cg's pumping down with really loud cracks, and very close to the house. Some small hail and brilliant structure in one storm at 10pm. It was more like a late spring evening than winter, it's always nice not to have to leave the varandah for a chase and just sit there with a glass of wine!
I took some videos and will try and put up some stills later. Overall a brilliant night in!

Anyone else here about the reports from near Beechworth? I was informed of a severe storm warning and a sustained thunderstorm which produced significant hail and wind last night.

More storms firing up. This photo is looking east towards Albury and things are now developing west as well. Looks like another stormy night...no complaints!
I haven't heard anything about Beechworth, there was a bit of wind damage south of Yarrawonga.

The same storm. It has really grown huge and photos are not really doing it justice. Constant rumbling and grumbling.

I am currently up at Port Macquarie for a week's holiday. Today I went for a drive up north, and had noticed some buildup at lunchtime over the ranges that wasn't amounting to much. Anyway a bit north of Kempsey noticed just after sunset that it was lighting up some light rain to the southwest (which didn't come out that well in the photo). Almost at Kempsey saw one lightning flash across the sky ahead and copped another couple south of Kemspey above me somewhere with light rain. Was hoping for a bit more but not to be.

Lightning apparently off the coast this evening from storms that moved off the coast from the Southern Tablelands. Here are some images - not bad for winter I must say!

A couple more photos of yesterday evening's storms. We didn't get a drop but it was really lovely to look at with the sun setting and colours changing.
