Is it me or does that 4:30pm VIS image of the overshoot look to have some sort of an anti-clockwise spiral rotation? I noticed this at the time while "chair chasing" the storms.

I heard reports on the Ch.7 Brisbane news that they were receiving up to 50mm per half hour (out near Beaudesert) from that HP SC.

Storms are still firing strongly in SE QLD now also. Seemed to be several dozen nice multicells kicking off around the Warrego that are still very active.

MB: From the looks of those photos, I would believe you would have 20 more great ones! Love the ones that are lighting up the surrounding ground around the strike zone! Just stunning I'm finding myself staring at the photos in awe lol

MB and Pato ... fworrrr great photos! How good are Prime lenses ... the 50mm are brilliant as seen with your photos MB. Pato I love the rippling cloud base in one of your shots with the two distant CG's. Can I ask where in Tregeagle you took those pictures?

Gday Everyone,

As MB mentioned met up again for a chase this arvo. We met at a spot near Casino to observe a cell that was moving in from the NT's. After about 45mins the base came into view so we decided to move further up the road towards Kyogle to try and stay ahead of the monster.

After these shots it became apparent that this storm would likely move to near Kyogle. CG's were quite frequent but still behind us. When we arrived in Kyogle the cell looked to move west of town so we decided to travel a bit further up the road towards Wiangaree. By the time we got there the cell was still to the west of our location but some nice structure was observed. It soon got out of our chasing range so we decided to move back towards Kyogle hoping to get out of the rain.

On the journey back towards Kyogle the rain was quite heavy and we were accompanied by a barrage of close CG's, some slamming down in the paddocks just off the road. Once we cleared the rain we decided to call it quits however distant cells had caught our eye and we wondered if we would get a lightshow later. Did we ever but I'll post pics in another post.

Now for part two. Had only just arrived home from the arvo chase, only to look out the front door to see lightning to the SW. So I quickly stuffed some food down my gob and went out again. Lightning was illuminating the whole sky. Ended up stopping at Parrots Nest to grab some pics of the CG's raining down. I could hardly decide where to point the camera as the stacatto bolts were everywhere. I did stuff up the first few as I had my F stop to low (F4) ended up increasing it to F8 with better results. Enjoy!















James my shots are taken from Parrots Nest which is about 7km out of Lismore. I think MB was about 10kms east of me, off the road between Lismore and Woodburn. MB may correct that if Im wrong.

After that last shot I started to get very strong outflow so I decided to pack up and make tracks. Not long after that it began to rain so I called it a night.
It was a perfect way to end an exciting weekend of storm chasing.

I spent last night camping in the Hunter area before returning to Sydney today. What did we get? It spat a couple of times on me while I was setting up the campfire last night. I miss those Lismore area storms (as a kid lived in Coraki). Hopefully we will get something down here in Sydney tomorrow from the forecast, will be taking the camera to work just in case!

Actually the last image needs a lot of stepping down considering it is so close!  Fantastic stuff Michael and am chuffed you captured some insane lightning.  Would have made your year thus far for sure. and superb images also from the other members - really impressive lightning.

Ok finally had a chance to sort through my shots I had commitments all weekend with friends but managed to race off a few times to take shots. Some of these are a bit rushed but nice enough all the same. Got to love the quality of these September storms!

Unfortunately the Jetty is closed for maintenance atm so I couldn't go onto it.

Gyday everyone just got home at 1230am after an AWESOME chase. Chaser convergence with Anthony,Jeff,Dave and Julian just north of Rathdowny occured which was quite excitting! Here are a few of my Fav pics.Wowsers at spring so far!!

 I am going to have a go today , GFS has plenty of cape and instability around Narrabri but has proved wayward the last few weeks so i think i will hang closer to the ranges , strong nw winds in 850 make me nervous , i will wait until new data about 930am before i go.

Mike - yeah, the last photo is stuffed - just included it to show how close/bright things got at the last min . Two CGs hit right next to me when I was getting in the car after light rain started - it felt dangerous.

Oh man! What can I say here but WOW! at everyone's images of the impressive storms.

I had an inkling the pictures would be stunning from all, but this is nuts! :D

*I have officially quit now LOL

*not really, only until the next storms arrive!

Quite warm here again today reaching 30ºc by 10am. We are currently under overcast skies and their seems to be a line of action down below Walgett currently. The state seems to be full of action today so I'm just keeping an eye on the LT and radar.

Looks like Narrabri is the place to be currently. The VIS is showing some nice overshooting happening on what seems to be 2 storms, one just about to hit Narrabri now. I can see a few cells from here but they are favoring a SW movement away from us. Still early but I'm watching it closely and will be ready to head out at a moments notice (though I will be on foot which may confine me a little to the town area)

5:15pm edit: Just had a cell come across town dropping around 1-2mm in a few minutes with some tiny, matchhead sized hail. I didn't see any lightning as it was only just forming. Seems like a very squally day. Towers are shooting up and forming storms, only to be gone in a matter of minutes.

I noticed the trough responsible for the weekend's storms is moving into SE QLD tomorrow, should this increase our chances of further activity? Considering the lack of upper level sheer?
