Hello all. After observing the latest Accumulated precipitation and Cape charts as well as the sounding southeast Queensland and northern nsw is expecting some thunderstorm / rain activity. Today was a great day around lunch a rain patch developed over ballina with very little or no movement at all and it lasted on us for over an hour. This rain patch brought us a total of 13.4mm.
Below is the radar archive for today’s rain patch as well as some isolated thunder cell over MacLean’s ridges / Wollongbar area afterwards.
Also attached is the Cape for Saturday at 1pm and the precipitation forecast.

I have been keeping an eye on the charts for the last 4 days and if you can trust them the accumulated precipitation forecasts from the GFS model indicate that Brisbane should have over 100mm of rain in the next 72 hours. 180 hours max's out to 150 mm on one of the runs.

They have been pretty constant with there predictions since Wednesday.

Bom rain chart is looking very interesting as well with  anticipated totals of between 100 - 150mm of rain for Sunday

Hi guys,
Some very heavy rain and storms about our area! Had a nice downpour yesterday afternoon around 6pm EDT that I think put down 6-8mm over 40mins or so. We do have a rather large storm sitting to our SW currently that is extremely low based and very HP! I watched this form while out on the fields this morning around 10:30pm EDT. Not much rain in town but the totals would be up there out to our West. There has been the odd strike here and there but nothing seriously active.

I will try and gather some rain totals and report back.

Overnight rainfalls for Blue Mountains 6/2/2010

While Sydney is not in Northern NSW, overnight some substantial rainfall totals have occurred in the Sydney Metropolitan area and Blue Mountains with some rainfall totals reaching 100 mm. Although such totals are isolated in nature. Up until 8 am 6/2/2010, and according to the weather stations in the Bureau of Meteorology network, the heaviest falls include:-

Mc Mahons Lookout - 134 mm, Faulconbridge - 117 mm, Katoomba 106 mm (Blue Mountains City Council Area), followed by 94 mm at Bilpin and 90 mm at Kelpie Point.

A weather station in Penrith has recorded 92 mm as well as 72 mm at Oakdale. The Penrith Weather Station shows 0.4 mm of rain at 7.30 pm 5/2/2010 and 41.4 mm by 8 pm. By 5 am 6/2/2010, the station shows 92.2 mm. It is Weather Station Number 67113 for reference.

There are also solid falls on the NSW South Coast around and near Moruya including 110 mm at Moruya (The Lagoon) and 105 mm at Bettowynd (Condry).

Bathurst and Orange respectively received 50 and 51 mm and very good falls fell across the Central Tablelands, parts of the southern Tablelands south of Braidwood as well as isolated 50 to 87 mm falls south west of Tamworth toward Coonambool.

Quite interesting falls widespread the NSW state lately. Inland areas has been a good drink for past week and now coastal areas getting it.

Theres a good areas of rain along north coast at the moment now.

Overnight rainfalls reach 100 mm across North West Sydney 7/2/2010

Overnight significant rainfalls have affected North West and Northern Sydney with totals exceeding 100 mm. At Kings Langley (Blacktown) 107 mm had fallen until 5 am 7/2/2010. Other big falls include 145 mm around Castle Hill and 157 mm at Hornsby. A fall of 191 mm had occurred at Frenches Forest.

The Bureau of Meteorology rainfall plot taken to 5 am 7/2/2010 is attached to show the big totals.

I was driving around Baulkham Hills and Blacktown during the event between 9 pm and 10 pm 6/2/2010 and driving was a little difficult. Rainfall was heavy but not torrential. I was observing significant water volumes, puddles, overland flow and water across roads and street gutters in some areas due to the volume of rain that was occurring. I then drove out to Westmead where the rain was lighter, then back to Blacktown where the intensity was greater and at the time, I could see a big difference in its impact.

Lovely totals over 150mm of rain across the region with Byron tops 218mm!

Recorded 99mm at Ballina Ap and 76mm at Dunoon.

Well last night the northern rivers had tremendous totals of rainfall as well as southeast Queensland. Today rain has contracted over Kyogle to Murwillumbah and is stationary. 170mm at Byron bay to 9am this morning. Even heavier in the tweed valley with a flood alert.

Looks like it’s just showers for the coast now. Had a great 24 hours of soaking here at ballina with 99mm recorded at ballina AWS but my weather station recorded 140mm.

Very heavy rain last night in Brisbane along with storms that swept across the Southeast early this morning, around 1.30am and onwards.

Many areas around Brisbane and to the north received over 100mm, but the heaviest rain was to the south of Brisbane. I have posted some of the recordings from catchment areas and stations.

A Severe weather warning was issued for flash flooding early this morning.

We seemed to have missed out on the bulk of the activity, although I recall a brief heavy downpour that lasted no more than a couple of minutes at around 12:30am. Besides that, it was fairly paltry in terms of raw mm's.

Hi,

It has been some time since we topped 100mm in 24 hours at Schofields with 107.6mm of rain falling. The rain was heaviest during the early hours of the morning. Coincidently waking up at the time, I took note of the radar - both the reflectivity radar and the doppler. A boundary could be seen with southerly winds and northeasterly winds meeting over northern Sydney hence creating the focus for heavier rain in the region. Grange Avenue and regions on the other side of Schfields and Marsden Park were isolated for a few hours. I have both vision and photographs showing just how the floodwaters peaked although I would think there was minimal damage to properties.

Hi all,

Some very impressive rainfall around the Eastern States of late!  

Our totals (though not as impressive) were 18mm in the 24hrs to 6pm on the 5th of Feb. and 36mm on the 7th of Feb. 31mm of this came in 26minutes from a large HP storm that moved in from the NE. The updraft towers were simply ridiculous! I haven't seen anything so massive in a while. Even while we were covered by a large anvil the convection was crazy and continually driving up many HP cells.

We had some minor/isolated flooding but nothing too major. I went out to the opal fields North of town and once I reached the 9Mile it was still pretty dusty. You could almost draw a line where the rain core had stopped lol.

Some more heavy falls would be very welcome out here!

I know this is a late reply but on the evening of the 5th of February there was an excellent thunderstorm that came off the ranges west of Penrithm New South Wales. This cell developed rapidly around 6pm with powerful very frequent cloud to ground lightning and very heavy rainfall. It was a well organised storm that had both north easterly and south eastlery inflow simultaneously and could've been riding a triple point. This was quite a significant storm that flew under the radar (pardon the pun).
